About this deal

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. He looked at me seriously. “Briana, I have to consider what’s best for the department. A broader pool to choose from is always preferable. There’s no glory in getting the job by default—”

Bri's book!!! And I'm so excited for you to finally meet Jacob—my best cinnamon roll yet and by far my favorite hero of all time.

SHORT PREVIEW: ER doctor - Dr. Briana Ortiz is in a rough time of her life. Finalizing her divorce, her brother is waiting on a kidney donor, and now she's seemingly getting pushed out of the Chief of Emergency Medicine position she's rightly earned? Jacob - running from the ex whos making his emotional well-being basically impossible, learns he's a perfect kidney match for Briana's brother. With both of their pasts pushing in - can they possibly find a way forward through all of their insecurities? But after her half sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her baby daughter, life goes from “daily adventure” to “next-level bad” (now with bonus baby vomit in hair).

I’m not going to do anything stupid. I’m not going to drunk-dial him. I’m not going to get shit-faced and throw up in my hair—” Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh.” I tried to disguise my disappointment. “Okay. I thought you and Jodi were moving to some villa in Costa Rica.” ABBY JIMENEZ'S WRITING STYLE: I'm loving how both books that I've read of hers are basically about workaholics finding love! Her writing also constantly reminds me of things about myself and other important life lessons we should all pay attention to. So many great quotes - I can't even list all my favorites!I let out a long sigh. “The first patient was a ninety-six-year-old with a bad heart. The second one was an eighty-nine-year-old stroke victim who had a DNR. There was a car accident crush injury—I got a peek at the X-rays, and nobody but God could have saved that man. Patient four was a gunshot wound to the head, which I don’t need to remind you is ninety percent fatal. The victim was comatose with no evidence of brain stem function upon arrival. Five was a cancer patient on hospice, and six was so septic he was practically dead when he got here.” I looked her in the eye. “Not. His. Fault. Sometimes it happens.” In this contemporary romance, two emergency room doctors, both recovering from messy breakups, form a close, comforting friendship and perhaps something more. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with aplan:They’ll date each other and break up. And not to give spoilers but when he asked that final question about what he could do to earn her trust, I didn’t think he’d be able to figure out how to give her what she needed but boy did he deliver and it just made so much sense and tied into the book so perfectly!

The letter exchanges at the beginning were so adorable! It's not something I've seen done very often in books, but it's such an interesting way for the characters to open up and be vulnerable with one another in a short amount of time. While Bri's letters tended to be more fun and entertaining, Jacob's letters were reflective and sincere. The exchanges were a sweet way for the characters to get to know one another while establishing trust. I wish, I wish, I wish. The last thing I want to be doing whilst reading a book is rewriting the story in my head. 😓 Emma hadn’t planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka. His character resonated very much to me when it came to his social anxiety and I loved Jimenez for going into such depth in the representation for that.I heard her pressing buttons on a microwave. “Eh, yeah. I do. Gibson’s pretty fair. I don’t picture him making this a gender thing.” The last person Vanessa expects to show up offering help is the hot lawyer next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him.
