About this deal

I love you with every fibre of my being and I will be spending every day of my life showing you how much you mean to me not just with words alone, but also with actions. I love you completely. You’re special, you’re amazing, you’re cool, you’re rare and I will always and forever treasure you with every fibre of my being. I love you deeply. I find myself in the group of readers who must read every Modglin book written (and there's a lot. This woman writes faster than I can complete a cycle of laundry from wash to fold to put away). Unsurprisingly, not every Modglin book is a success, yet here I am still reading. Kiersten Modglin, a leader in the psychological thriller genre, has once again blessed the reading world with another entertaining, creepy and addicting story. You’re my strength whenever I’m weak and I vow to never take your friendship for granted; not even for one day in my life. I love you forever, my wonderful friend.

You Can Trust Me: The gripping, glamorous psychological

For me personally, this was never going to be quite as good as Close My Eyes, which is one of my all time favourite psychological thrillers. It is also the reason I read so many more psychological thrillers these days, eagerly craving the thrill Close My Eyes gave me. Having said that, this is still a very good book, and anyone who enjoyed Close My Eyes should definitely read this one too. This wasn't quite 4 stars, but I rounded up just for the simple fact that I enjoyed the speculation. The author did a great job at shifting the suspicion among a handful of characters. It really fit the title as she explored who can you really trust. The author played on that idea a lot. Can you trust your husband? Do you really know your best friend, your boss, your family friends, your children? When I fell in love with you, I trusted you with all my heart, my soul and my body, and I need you to trust me as I will never do anything to hurt you. I love you more, darling. Brilliant characters and unexpected turns! Grows and changes with every reveal…’ Louisa de Lange, author of THE DREAM WIFE This doesn't put me off of reading other books by her though, because all books are different as are stories even when related by the same person.

I found the first part of the story most interesting because the mystery was quite intriguing. The story is divided into 4 parts, and the latter half is eyebrow raising. The drama increases as she meets Julia's mysterious boyfriend and seems drawn to him. However, the reader isn't sure of his intentions. LIVY - A yummy-mummy selfish cow. She has zero trust in her husband, Will, after an affair he had six years ago (not completely unreasonable, I guess) but she does say she’s forgiven Will but then goes on and on about how much she doesn’t trust him – and she *immediately jumps to the worst conclusion in issues involving Will – so you really have to wonder why she’s not got out of the marriage before now??? If you don’t trust your husband, woman, get out. You made your bed, now you have to lie in it. Oh, and her sister was murdered when she was a teenager. If you missed this point in the blurb, don’t fear – you’ll be beaten over the head with it throughout the book. In the midst of dealing with her friend's death, Livy's husband is given an assignment in Paris. Not only must she bear her grief alone but she learns that a colleague of her husband with whom he had an affair with in the past, is accompanying him on the Paris assignment. And when Livy finally faces her sister’s killer, and he traps her with one horrible, impossible choice, she must finally decide: is she strong enough to trust herself?

I found the lead character, Livy to be incredibly wooden and unlikeable. I saw nothing heroic about her acts – instead found her impulsive, unstable and irritating. The story itself was farfetched and very over the top. Yes I get that this is a thriller and the outrageous is expected but this just wasn’t believable to me. Halfway through the book, my logical side was constantly repeating “Why on earth is this stupid woman not calling the police?”. The whole thing just annoyed me, if I’m honest. I also found it very predictable throughout and felt the constant ‘new leads’ were confusing and not really necessary. But the story is just too long, and too repetitive. I just listened and listened on to find out who might have done it. Any male character in the book could have done it.
