The Xperia 1 V is Sony’s 2023 flagship and, as such, it should come as no surprise that it’s a powerhouse of processing power with Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset at its heart, coupled with an ample 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. In the world of smartphones, the battle for supremacy is a never-ending saga, with tech giants constantly striving to outdo each other. Sony, a company renowned for its innovation and high-quality products, has brought forth two remarkable contenders: the Sony Xperia 5 V and the Sony Xperia 10 V. Both phones have impressive features, but they cater to different needs and preferences. Let’s dive into the comparison of these two giants to help you decide which one is the best fit for your lifestyle. Design and Display: Expandable memory up to 1000GB when using microSDXC card slot. Boost your storage to hold more tunes, holiday snaps and extra apps. That means your standard adaptor lying around won’t really need upgrading, giving a point to the “green” practice of simply using what you already have, but it’s another case of Sony’s handset struggling to keep up with the truly convenient features of the phones it’s trying to compete with for the same money.

The main camera has received an upgrade, with Sony swapping out the 1/2.8in 12MP sensor of the Xperia 10 IV for a larger, more pixel-dense 1/2in 48MP sensor. You get the same pair of 8MP sensors for ultrawide and 2x telephoto shots as last year, however. Another Xiaomi phone definitely worth considering is the Poco X5 Pro. In many aspects, it is not too dissimilar to the Redmi Note 12 Pro, like the 6.67-inch, 10-bit Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 120Hz display, the IP53 ingress protection rating and the stereo speakers. There is also the identical 5,000 mAh battery with the same 67W fast charging. Once again, you will be missing out on a telephoto camera, though. Endurance is one of the biggest reasons to consider snapping up an Xperia 10 V. Sony has squeezed a 5000mAh battery inside its skinny chassis, which instantly gives it a leg up over many mid-rangers. The modest hardware helps, of course, but it’s the software tweaks that mean this phone merely sips power, others are gulping it down. When it comes to included software and services, there isn’t a massive amount to talk about with the Xperia 10 V. It’s also helped by the fact that the sensor is 1.7x larger than that of its predecessor. In fact, Sony claims that combined with its advanced computational photography tech, photos can match the quality of traditional DLSRs – though that’s something we’ll have to verify once we go hands-on with the flagship. Moving onto Avatar: The Way of Water, also on Disney Plus, the intense battle sequence towards the end of the film provides us with a chance to study motion on this device. Despite the hectic camera movements and lots of fast-moving subjects on screen, the Xperia refrains from stuttering and motion remains smooth and cinematic. This film also affirms much of what we felt from Rogue One, including the vibrant colours and excellent clarity. Haunting the whole camera experience, however, is that same sense of lag that I complained about with last year’s model. There were too many instances where there seemed to be a tiny pause between pressing the shutter button and getting a response. There’s a passable 8MP selfie camera around the front, which can take reasonably vibrant shots in perfect lighting conditions, though it can still suffer with blown-out highlights when said conditions aren’t nice and even.
I don’t doubt that you’ll be able to get some great shots via the camera app’s manual controls with enough effort. But when outside video on a summer’s day came out looking noisy, processed, and bumpy, there are doubts that the vast majority of casual snappers will feel a little burned by Sony’s usually solid reputation in the photography field. Performance The Grayscale accuracy chart shows whether a display has a correct white balance(balance between red,green and blue)across different levels of grey(from dark to bright).The closer the Actual colors are to the Target ones,the better. Like the Xperia 1 V, we’ve not gone hands-on with the Xperia 10 V just yet, but with experience using Snapdragon 695-equipped phones like the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite, we expect performance to be fine overall, though it may not be able to power some AAA titles with high-level textures enabled. The Xperia 1 V is triple the cost of the Xperia 10 V Let's start with some positives first. The Xperia 10 V finally has a stereo speaker setup and a pretty good one at that - front-facing, well-balanced and decently loud, with a clean output. Making a return - the great ingress protection rating is hard to come by in the midranger space. The same is true for a telephoto camera, let alone one that does a decently good job quality-wise, like we are seeing on the Xperia 10 V. We can't fail to mention the excellent battery life the Xperia 10 V manages from its 5,000 mAh battery and now with notably faster charging, even if still rather slow in the grand scheme of things. The brightness boost on the signature 21:9 HDR display is also great to see this year.

As soon as I got set up, it was immediately clear that I wouldn’t be getting a whole lot out of it. So long as you’re not into playing graphically intensive 3D games like Honkai Star Rail, you won’t notice things quite so starkly as I did. But that doesn’t make day-to-day operations silky smooth, either.Fair play, Sony: not many mid-range phones have three rear cameras, and the ones that do mostly use next-to-useless macro lenses. The Xperia 10 V has an honest-to-goodness 8MP telephoto, albeit with a modest 2x zoom, to compliment the main and ultrawide cameras.
