About this deal

This reads like a long winded self help book full of probably fictitious anecdotes. There are no references to clinical studies. That doesn't mean this advice is not good, but it must be considered with skepticism. Even with boring old punishment, the natural creativity of schools cannot be suppressed. The names for isolation rooms bear this out beautifully. We casually refer to it as isolation, seclusion (like a secluded beach resort!), the hole, the growth mindset room, respite, the grade room, challenge!, the time-out room and, unbelievably, the inclusion room. I can think of nothing less inclusive than a cell. Heaping punishment on damaged children is not right.” Children need to be taught and retaught expected behaviours. This is critical in a secondary school where children are moving between teachers. In a primary school, as children move between activities and environments, it is no less important. It might be comforting to think that we reach a certain age and suddenly know how to behave. The reality is that there is no such age.” Our approach is used in 100,000 classrooms worldwide. Alongside attainment our work is shown to support cognitive development, emotional health and well being, engagement, attendance, self efficacy and self regulation.

This book is a must-read for every school leader. If you want to create an inclusive school where children s behaviour is not only managed, but is changed as well, you should not miss out on reading this book. --Sue Cowley, teacher and education author Our new Online Course Supporting Behaviour Change for Leaders is for anyone who is supporting colleagues in Paul’s approach. Your students might claim that they prefer to lead lives of wild and crazy chaos. In reality, it is your routines, and your relentless repetition of them, that makes the students feel safe enough to learn.” When the Adults Change Everything Changes was a silver winner 2017 Foreword INDIES Awardsin the Education category. Our coaches see past that which is immediately noticeable to explore deeper patterns. Being deeply experienced and extraordinarily observant they can give you the insight you need to create transformational change. This is not just another set of eyes on your practice; it is an expert eye from the UKs best practitioners.

Save your finest performance for when it has most impact: when children do the right thing. Then reward them with your enthusiasm, encouragement, humour, time and attention.” You can land a sanction with a hard edge or you can land a sanction with an immediate reminder of the child’s previous good behaviour. Done well, with good timing and perfect tone, there is a little magic here.” In the beginning, practise scripted intervention with your loveliest children – the ones who would very rarely need a scripted intervention. They may look at you strangely but it’s a great way to get used to the technique. Don’t try to use it immediately with the most challenging pupils.” Relationships matter. People matter. As educators, we are not dealing with faceless statistics, we are dealing with brilliant, funny, smart, infuriating, imperfect human beings. Hundreds of them, every day. People respond best to people, not to rules, and our pupils are no exception.Suitable for all head teachers, school leaders, teachers, NQTs and classroom assistants in any phase or context, including SEND and alternative provision settings who are looking to upgrade their own classroom management or school behaviour plan. scripted interventions and approaches which have been tried and tested in a range of contexts, from the most challenging urban comprehensives to the most privileged international schools, behaviour training expert and When the Adults Change director Paul Dix advocates an inclusive approach that is practical, transformative and rippling with respect for staff and learners. An approach in which behavioural expectations and boundaries are exemplified by people, not by a thousand rules that nobody can recall. Getting the culture right is pivotal. With the right culture the strategies that are used become less important. The culture is set by the way that the adults behave.” When the Adults Change Everything Changes was a silver winner 2017 Foreword INDIES Awards in the Education category.
