The AC-Mesh comes with removable omnidirectional antennas, which can be replaced with any antenna that has RP-SMA connectors. These distance tests are more realistic, and the 15 feet + 1 wall results are more likely what you will see in typical use. The U6-LR has twice the spatial streams (2x2:2 vs. 4x4:4) in both bands, resulting in better beamforming and higher potential throughput. It is physically much larger, the same size as the AC-HD. The U6-LR is a step up in nearly every way, but it still has an older 802.11n-era 2.4 GHz radio and MediaTek chipset like the U6-Lite.

These tests were conducted with 5ghz Wi-Fi channel width set to VHT80 on the the UAP access points and HE80 on the U6 so that speed shouldn't be constrained by wifi channel width. Final Thoughts The U6-Mesh is a Wi-Fi 6 update to the FlexHD, and is my default recommendation for outdoor UniFi networks. I setup iPerf3 in server mode on a gigabit hardwired PC on my local network and used the iPerf mobile app with 5 streams to test the Wi-Fi speed of new U6-Pro-US, the UAP-AC-Pro, and the UAP-AC-HD using an iPhone 13 Pro (which supports 802.11ax and 2x2 MIMO). iPerf runs within the local network so it is unaffected by variances in your WAN internet speeds. The U6-Mesh is my default recommendation for outdoor UniFi wireless networks. The AC-Mesh and AC-Mesh-Pro are still workhorses, and their superior antenna options make them better options in some situations. I’d still lean towards the U6-Mesh due to the higher performance with Wi-Fi 6 devices, but that’s just me. I don’t think there’s a big rush to upgrade from an AC-Mesh or AC-Mesh-Pro, but for new installs and upgrades the U6-Mesh is the new benchmark. So the Ubiquiti Pro and LR Wi-Fi 6 APs increase from 3x3 to 4x4 MIMO on the 5ghz radio band. The Pro actually went down from 3x3 MIMO in the UAP-AC-Pro to 2x2 MIMO in the U6-Pro-US. The loss of 2 MIMO antennas in the 2.4ghz band may not materially affect performance because many 2.4ghz devices don't support higher levels of MIMO anyway.
