About this deal

Specs-wise, the TRIMUI SMART is able to play entry-level retro games. As I mentioned before, up to PS1 is possible, though don’t expect massively demanding games from that era to play well. However, the PS1 games that came included (14 in total) played very well indeed. The likes of Sega and Nintendo Systems, as well as PC Engine games, all played as expected. Battery-wise, I was getting a good 3.5 hrs. of play time before I was having to consider charging the console, which in my opinion, for such a small handheld, was fairly decent. One thing I did find to be very annoying was the music playing on the main menu screen. Even after turning it down within the settings, it would increase again when I came out of a game. However, within the settings, it still showed the music as being turned down. Hopefully, this will be resolved in a future OTA update.

Sound quality is good, even though the console only has one small speaker to the bottom right. I was really surprised by how loud the TRIMUI Smart could be with not a great deal of distortion at top levels. Given the overall size of this handheld it’s not surprising to discover that the LCD is also tiny. Measuring just 2 inches from corner to corner, it’s the same size as the one found in the GB Micro and also the RS-90 Retromini. Unlike both of those screens though, this one has a resolution of 320×240. That resolution plays nicely with a large selection of older systems, but for GBA you’ll have to use non-integer scaling for a full width image. On larger screens this makes for blurry pixels and whilst it’s noticeable on the Model S too, the small screen size definitely helps to reduce the blurriness a bit. First up, I want to talk about the Trimui Smart’s always-good-but-never-quite-perfect screen. 2.4” is a very small screen. I spend most of my handheld gaming time on a GameBoy Advance SP, a PlayStation Vita, or a Nintendo Switch Lite. Shifting down to such a small display was tough, but the screen seems to be really sharp and I actually found it surprisingly readable, even in text-dense SNES games. One of my favourite arcade games is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and this also played very well on the SMART. The fact that you can even pause and save your gameplay was great as I often find myself having small bouts of gameplay on these handhelds when sat around waiting for appointments or in a cafe. Finally, the Trimui Smart features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to enable multiplayer play between devices. This is an absolutely awesome feature in a device like this, and they were kind enough to send me two of them to try it out… but I never got it to work. Final Thoughts

Just to correct you that eggs is not gameblabla, although he did use some of my forks and emulators (such as my fork of Temper and oswan) and he does sometime asks me questions about it but i have no direct involvement with it and would rather not touch this handheld given the poor specs. (the Bittboy and its F1C100S still gives me nightmares, the F1C200S is the same except for double the RAM) Due to the different monitor and light effect, the actual color of the item might be slightly different from the color showed on the pictures. Thank you!

A tag already exists with the provided branch name. Many Git commands accept both tag and branch names, so creating this branch may cause unexpected behavior. Are you sure you want to create this branch? I sold my gameboy micro a long time ago and always regretted it. Now this little handheld fills the void perfectly. I’ll get something else when I want to play higher end systems but as a Genesis/SNES/GBA machine it works great for me. Reply As per usual, we’re keeping an eye out. It’s still quite early on this one. But with the pace of things in 2022, it’s safe to say that things will go pretty wild in 2023. Notice that game cores crashing will make layer confuse for old MainUI, you have to use new v0.116 MainUI to recovery. Or use the little binary to recover in RetroArch folder. Notice the screenshot is broken when you use the layers, you can switch to SDL version. This level of hardware allows for decent SNES emulation with exceptions for games such as Yoshi’s Island in which I am only able to achieve 14 FPS. Many PS1 games run at an acceptable speed as long as you’re not too sensitive to frameskip. For most systems below these you’re good, and both GBA and Mega Drive are great on this hardware. BUILD QUALITY AND CONTROLSGLOBAL TRANSIT TIMES: The following are estimates only, but should give you a sense of what to expect:

Talking about settings, when you go to them, you will notice that you can connect to Netplay, as well as use the SMART as a hotspot. This is useful so that you can play against others who may have the same console. You can also connect Bluetooth headphones to the console too, which you will need to do if you want to listen through headphones. Screen Issues Using integer scaling means the image is actual size on a pixel by pixel basis at which point this screen is even smaller than the GameBoy Micro On SNES, I ran into those same issues along with visual glitches that seemed to have to do with transparency and layering in the game. Think of a JRPG menu causing the whole screen to get random static on it when it opens up. Annoying, for sure, but it never made things unplayable and only happened in some games. The Firmware Wrapper No 3.5mm Headphone Input (Only Bluetooth Headphones)..You Can Use USB-C headphones or a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter Though.Looking at the console itself, you get the typical A, B, X, Y buttons, D-pad and then along the bottom the Select, Menu and Start buttons. On the top edge, you get the left and right shoulder buttons. There is also a small speaker on the right, just below the face buttons, as well as a micro SD card slot, USB-C charging port and a very small On/Off switch. Ooooo I'm getting nostalgic just reading this Article. I remember over 10 years ago when I first got into Obscure… Issues With Loading Save States (GB/GBC/GBA/NES/Some Arcade...Other Platforms Were Fine. This Will Likely Be Fixed In The Future We expect that the internals will be nearly identical to the Trimui Smart device that recently came out… just in a totally different form factor and a much better screen. bug fix: LCD driver for screen tearing (fix bug from Linux kernel, only support USB Factory Recovery)

GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and NES games all seemed to run perfectly on the machine, and every SNES or GBA game I tried was totally playable with just a few trade-offs. On the GameBoy Advance side of things, I found screen tearing and audio hiccups, but it was never consistent. We’re talking about an issue every minute or so of play, which in the grand scheme of things is almost nothing. Excellent review! Shame the original TrimUI device is difficult / expensive to get hold of now that it’s been replaced by the PowKiddy A66.It has enough buttons to play the 8-32 bit era games (GB, GBC, Genesis, NES, SNES, Neo Geo, Arcade, PS1). You can also change the CPU frequency too, which will help give the SMART a little more power if you find some of the PS1 games a struggle to play.
