Although full of facts it reads like a novel and maintains an intriguing pace. An incredibly relevant and current discourse, this book provides insight into the ways in which nurses can use social media to their advantage. Since social media has infiltrated nearly every profession, and nursing is not exempt, it is not only an interesting read but an instructive guide on utilizing this technological tool to your advantage throughout your nursing career for a variety of purposes. In following four nurses, Alexandra Robbins creates sympathetic characters while diving deep into their world of controlled chaos. It’s a world of hazing—“nurses eat their young.” Sex—not exactly like on TV, but surprising just the same. Drug abuse—disproportionately a problem among the best and the brightest, and a constant temptation. And bullying—by peers, by patients, by hospital bureaucrats, and especially by doctors, an epidemic described as lurking in the “shadowy, dark corners of our profession.” I'm about half-way through. I don't know what to make of the book. The writing is sometimes fairly dense research and sometimes anecdotal. The anecdotal the stories of the four nurses is the most interesting but is a problem to me because although the four nurses are so very different, if their names weren't continually in front of me I wouldn't know which is which. Or perhaps I don't care enough?In alternative chapters, written by “Him” we see the thought process and actions of the person who has taken her and what led to it happening. These involuntary celibate men (or incels) are resentful of women who they feel like think they are better than them and harbor resentment against the advancement of feminism so they go on the dark web and plot dangerous things like walking behind women just to terrorize them and filming their fear then posting it in the dark web. The first post is made, which sets off a tidal wave of likes and comments and triggers the events that lead to Nell’s disappearance. My favorite of the main nurses they talked about? Hmm, loved them and felt for them all but I would have to say a tie between Molly and Juliette. I connected the most with them... warm, funny, and compassionate ladies who care fiercely about their patients. (The latter parts describe the other ladies as well to different degrees). And Juliette, an overweight and very hardworking nurse who gets excluded from the mean girl clique at the hospital. Yes, nurses do form highschoolish cliques-even though we are supposed to be in a helping field it still happens. There is also an affair with a doctor and a situation of bullying while another is tired of being tired and feeling exploited. Their stories show how the exposure to trauma as well as death on a regular basis can take a toll on anyone. This book is directed both at nurses who work with disabilities and those who have disabilities, as well. It is inspiring and makes the point that disabilities may exist but it doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dreams. This is an exceptional book with an inspirational message and is a great read. I liked this book, but didn’t love it. I was in the hospital for three days with third grade concussion and a hip fracture. As you can imagine, I was pretty freaked out at first.
