About this deal

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. So they devise a plan to one day bring hope to these families. In the meantime, they help each other and provide strength to make it through.

Midwife of Auschwitz to be turned into True-life story of Midwife of Auschwitz to be turned into

It is not often that wartime fictional stories, which are largely centred around Nazi labour camps, are narrated almost exclusively from a female perspective. A brave gambit by the author, which she has executed to perfection and with total empathy, highlighting a storyline which definitely needed to be told and that held me in thrall from the very first sentence, to the very final word. I had never really given any thought to the need for midwives in the concentration camps and the ensuing emotional agony of mothers who did, by some miracle, happen to survive childbirth, only to have their babies so cruelly snatched away from them. Some of the facts are so distasteful, that the cruelty is almost beyond belief or comprehension. This book is extremely powerful and extremely well written. It is devastatingly heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. The storyline of this book is based on the true story Stanislawa Leszczynska, although fictional Anna has done an excellent amount of research and based the character Ana on Stanislawa and her "assistant" character Ester is based on Stanislawa's daughter Sylwia. It is absolutely rammed with emotions that will make you smile, cry and laugh on the roller-coaster ride to hell that is Auschwitz. Nothing is left out and the author has done an immense amount of research and brings Stanislawa and Sylwia's story to life via Ana and Ester.

Stanisława Leszczyńska - Wikipedia

Leszczyńska returned to Łódź, and her children also arrived there from the forced labour camps. She settled in an apartment at 99 Zgierska Street and continued working as a midwife locally. Remembering Auschwitz, she prayed over every child she delivered. On January 27, 1970 Stanisława attended an official celebration in Warsaw, where she met the women prisoners of Auschwitz and their grown-up children who had been born in the camp. [4] She died four years later. [10] Remembrance Reading this book brought many emotions. It's hard to fathom what life was like in such a place. It was difficult to read of the conditions babies were born into, that most did not survive and the ones that did were taken from their mothers. Even more difficult to comprehend is the fact that human beings can treat others in such terrible ways.I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'The Tattooist of Auschwitz', 'Orphan Train',Ellie Midwood, The Tattooist of Aushcwitz, 'The Alice Network', 'The Nightingale', The Librarian of Aushcwitz and anyone interested in the Holocaust and its history. I found this book to be very well written, and it flowed from start to finish with great characters and written with empathy and strength. How will we get by the guards? It seems impossible. Yet we will be dead by the end of the week if we don’t—my precious girl and I have nothing to lose by trying. The chief disease decimating the women was dysentery. Often their loose stools would drip down onto the bunks below them.”
