About this deal

Weight Increments : 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, 35, 37.5, 40, 42.5, 45, 47.5 and 50 LBS (per hand) The closed handle design is a bit restrictive. There are certain exercises that are more difficult to do, like overhead tricep extensions. Also, performing certain exercises with single dumbells are challenging. In that tiny amount of space, you get (again, depending on the model), between 5 and 90 pounds in 5-pound increments, replacing anywhere between eight and 28 pairs of dumbbells. The Commercial Pro Series can go all the way to 175 pounds (though, I won’t lie, they do start feeling pretty clunky at that point). The only downside, we found them to be slightly less durable than other dumbbells on our list. The dumbbells stayed intact when dropped on gym flooring, but a small piece of one of the dumbbells chipped off when they were dropped on concrete flooring. But rest easy knowing these dumbbells come with a two-year warranty. We love the textured grip on this adjustable dumbbell, which is perfect for weightlifters in need of a particularly anti-slip handle. When performing lifts with wet hands during the wet test, our hands never slipped from the handle, even with a heavier weight.

The BowFlex SelectTech adjustable dumbbell is easier to operate because you adjust a dial to change the weights. The dials can be turned in either direction. You have to make sure the numbers are the same on both ends of the weight before removing it from the stand. Verywell Fit writer Lindsey Lanquist has years of experience in the health and fitness space. For this piece, she prioritized adjustable dumbbells that were easy to use and genuinely well-reviewed by those who've tried them. She also made sure to feature adjustable dumbbells in a range of different weights and styles. After all, personal preference can vary a lot—and you deserve an adjustable dumbbell set that meets your precise needs. We were also impressed that the dumbbells came fully assembled and were super easy to set up. Easier to store than other options on our list, this pair came with its own storage bases. Overall, recommend this set to someone who doesn't require weights below 15 pounds and feels comfortable progressing weights in 10-pound increments. Each of the Sport Series has a rubber grip and a more open handle design intended to give the user a wider range of motion. The design of the Sport dumbbells is “sportier” than the other models because it has a more aerodynamic, rounded weight look. The biggest difference between these and the Elite Series, which are what we recommend most often, is where they’re manufactured. Elite Series

These dumbbells are listed as "adjustable," but they only adjust to three weights. When we weighed each dumbbell in the Lab, the minimum weight per dumbbell was 2.2 pounds (although the manufacturer lists it as 2.3 pounds), the medium weight was 3.4 pounds, and the maximum weight was 4.4 pounds (although the manufacturer lists it as 4.5 pounds). But we still found them super easy to adjust while you exercise—simply twist open the ends of the dumbbells to add or remove the small weight bars found inside to increase or decrease the weight. These adjustable dumbbells were also tested in our Lab and while they didn't make our final list of recommendations, they are a solid option.

Even though these are my favorite adjustable dumbbells, they aren’t without their flaws. High Weight Bulkiness Although these dumbbells don't ship assembled, it took us less than five minutes to fully assemble them, without needing any tools. Like the Bowflex weights, Core Home Fitness' Adjustable Dumbbells are simple to use. We were able to easily adjust the weights from exercise to exercise with a simple twist of the handles. However, we still think the Bowflex pair is superior for adjustability because it adjusts in 2.5-pound increments up to 25 pounds and offers 15 weights in one, while this pair adjusts in 5-pound increments and only offers users 10 weights in one. One disadvantage of adjustable dumbbells is that the shape of the weight may force you to adjust how you train. The size of the weight or the way it's designed could force you to select another exercise or alter how you perform it. Since the handle is in the middle of the dumbbell and is surrounded by the pinned weight, it does have a few limitations. For example, you won't be able to do certain exercises such as the dumbbell pull-over for the lats and the double-arm overhead extension for the triceps because you can't hold the weight as you should for those movements.

Since this adjustable dumbbell has a more traditional shape, it can be used in a similar fashion as your basic fixed dumbbell. You can perform the dumbbell pull-overs and overhead extensions as well as other exercises such as the goblet squat because you can hold the inside of the weight securely without compromising your form. The weight increments are also consistent. Each turn adjusts the dumbbell by 5 pounds. The dumbbell provides up to 90 pounds as is.
