I was discouraged. I had lost my best friend. And sure, there is a proper time for mourning but you cannot let a season of mourning turn into a lifetime of mourning. At some point you've got to say, "God, I'm letting it go. Yes, I'm disappointed. Yes, it's hard. But just because my loved one has died doesn't mean that your plan for my life has ended". I know what it’s like to carry so much pain inside of you that you go physically and mentally numb. I know how it feels to carry a shattered heart and a deep void of emptiness within. I know what its like to be on the bleeding edge of despair and utter desolation. And I have seen this struggle countless time in other people too.
A lady asked me one time, "Joel, why did your mother get healed from cancer but my mother didn't? We prayed. We believed. We stood on the same scriptures". My answer is always the same. I don't know why. I don't claim to have all the answers but I do know God is for you. He said he would give you beauty for those ashes but you've got to let go of the ashes. Let go of the disappointments. Let go of the hurts and pains. Quit trying to figure out why something bad has happened to you. The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward. Steve Maraboli

For those of us who have a tight grip on life and others, it can feel terrifying to think about letting go. Or it’s scary allowing life to happen or allowing others the freedom to be who they are without your guidance. What I thought would be the darkest hour of my life, the death of my father. And I say this respectfully because I honor and love my dad. But it turned out to be the brightest hour of my life. It launched me into what I'm doing now. The death of my father was another step on the way to my divine destiny.
