About this deal

Use the video linked to make sure the DC barrel charger is Center Positive before plugging it into Pinecil. Several users have accidentally plugged incorrect center-negative chargers into Pinecil which immediately breaks it because it is the wrong type of charger (this is sometimes repairable, see live community chat). It is really making ‘it’ work better if the ‘it’ was awful to the point of rebuild from nearly the ground up, with just a little of the the ‘it’ left in… One guy on the chat had a Diode floating in his case another one found a capacitor that was soldered very crappy.

Miniware TS101 Smart Soldering Iron Review: Lots of Options

If you have a Pinecil V1, there isn’t much reason to upgrade to V2. The extra power (88W) is nice to have, but how often do we really need it? On the other hand if you are looking for a soldering iron, then Pinecil V2 is an ideal starter iron. We get a low cost iron, with high-end features. One specific chip (that I mentioned) is on one specific board (that I mentioned) and schematics are found trivially at https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PineCone. Another specific RISC-V chip is on a completely different board and has schematics also trivially found at https://github.com/starfive-tech/VisionFive. Here’s another with schematics and even KiCad sources: https://www.cnx-software.com/2021/10/30/open-source-hardware-allwinner-d1s-risc-v-linux-sbc/ Quartz64 receives DietPi support; now supported by Armbian, Manjaro, DietPi as well as giving option to run Arch Linux and NetBSD

Note that some QC chargers simply will not work, are too weak, or cheaply made (PD USB-C chargers are recommended over QC only type) Option 1: a USB-C supply that can negotiate up to such a voltage. For good performance and soldering experience, a USB-C PD65W, 20V, 3+ A charger is recommended (suitable for most users). RISC-V is an architecture, not a board. Your statement is akin to saying you can’t find a schematic for a Pentium or a service manual for a “V-8”. That’s kind of nonsensical. Pinecil V2 Review: Smart Soldering Iron, Powered by RISC-V

The new Pinecil V2 soldering iron will work with all existing tips, uses the same DC and USB-C input connectors, and remains compatible with the red and transparent cases. Notebook AC Adapter Delta Electronics ADP-65JH BB (DC@19V) and ADP-90CD DB (1.7x 4.8mm need adapter, tip is not DC5525) EPR is potentially the fastest/highest performance possible for V2; officially Pine Store states 12V-24V, 88W.Do a simple test is to see if the iron will melt solder at approximately the expected temperature for the alloy of solder being tested.

Get a Power Wheels Adapter like this for Ryobi, then splice/connect it to a DC5525 Pigtail to complete connection to Pinecil. Easy way: just get a Power Wheels adapter. They are made for different tool brands and get a DC5525 Pigtail wire. This is a very small list compared to all the possible chargers that work, and new chargers come on the market all the time.Build quality… Well the USB-PD Chip is rated 28V absolute maximum, but only 21V recommended. If you connect 24V on the barrel, the chip will be powered outside of its recommended specs which might impact lifetime. Phone chargers are too weak, most are only 12V 1.5 amps which is too low and prevent proper Pinecil operation. The Pinecil’s case is marginally bigger than the TS100 and weighs slightly more, but is substantially built and not flimsy as the cheap SanErYiGo iron was. Its nine-second heat-up time is comfortably faster than its competitor. The silicone finger sleeve is a very nice touch indeed, and gives the iron a good feel in use. It’s clear that some thought has gone into making the case more than just a handle, with those moulded stand protrusions making it safe to put down on the bench when hot. For certain QC adapters, lowering the PD timeout value to 15 could help, and most PD adapters will also still work using 15. If a PD charger does not work at 15, then increase the timeout (PD default is 20 = 20x 100ms = 2 seconds).
