The downside to buying online is that you can’t actually get hold of the product to try it out first. Very minor downside, can be a little tough getting the poles in there straps as they have limited tensioning allowance and the eyebrow canopy is quite tight too. All in all, very happy with this. Serious bargain. I think you’d struggle to find a better 3 man tent for even double what I paid for this. The tent comes with two carry bags in the main bag, one is with the inner tent plus poles, and the other contains the shell. This is good to have if you want to share the weight with your partners.

The inside is more than big enough for me and the sprogs. The missus could squeeze in too for the odd single night adventure, but it’d be a squeeze for prolonged periods. The space inside is more useable than other tents I’ve looked at as the footprint is roughly rectangular instead of coffin shaped. That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from OEX so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at OEX branded products within the Weekend Tents category. The cost of OEX Weekend Tents Being a responsible parent, I decided against christening it with two sprogs in tow, up a mountain in the middle of nowhere. If it turns out to leak badly or something is missing, a fun time wasn’t gonna he had. So we found a picturesque spot on the farm and pitched up for the night.OEX tents have been built to withstand the trials of outdoor adventures and expeditions. They use 7075 lightweight aluminium poles, with durable poly flysheets that won't falter in arduous conditions, and will give you years of service. Good space internally, easily fitting two. The porch area is a good size too allowing kit storage and even careful cooking/brewing if the weather is a little inclement. Another factor that can be a great indication of product quality is the brand. Brands like OEX are of course extremely well known, especially for Weekend Tents. There is a spacious porch for cooking and admin and it has a built in groundsheet which is attached to the inner. You can roll this away if you want, but I found it really useful to have a nice dry spot for storing boots and our bag. Its simple 'apex' pole design makes it stay sturdy in high wind. The fire retardant, 5000HH rated flysheet will shield you from wind, rain and snow.

The tent is quite low, and more importantly the vestibule opening is even lower because of the small brim above the door. The flysheet is very waterproof (rated to 5000mm) with a fire-retardant coating which will self-extinguish if exposed to flame. When buying Weekend Tents, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying. It comes with its downsides though. It’s massive. You aren’t lugging this thing far from your car. It’s also not very waterproof at all. A recent adventure confirmed this when I awoke with the entire bottom half of my doss bag in a puddle. The fabric: The tent is a true double-layer type so you have a polyester shell with the vestibule and its waterproof rating is impressive 5000 mm.

Regarding the size, the tent is officially for three people. They do not provide the exact number for the area, but my estimate is that you have around 43 ft² (4 m²) in the inner tent. Important for us as we may occasionally use it as a 4 man tent (see above regarding wife).

It was also quite windy and it felt nice and sturdy. I’d have no hesitation in taking this out on the fells. The hydrostatic head of 5000mm exceeds most other tents and puts it firmly in the same league as serious mountain tents. OEX Endura poles are made using 7001 aluminium with T6 heat treatment conditioning, for the ultimate tensile strength and high yield properties Regarding the best use & climate, this tent is nicely ventilated so it will work well in a warm environment, but it is almost fully closable and this is useful if you are in a cold place.
