About this deal

Most artists wrestle with slight variations of the same theme throughout their lives. Alan Moore is no exception. While Miracleman is one of Moore's first major works, he's basically playing the greatest hits here: there's government conspiracy, superhero deconstruction, fascism, übermensch mythology, and no fewer than two major plot points that revolve around rape. Middle-aged reporter Michael Moran always knew he was meant for something more. When an unexpected series of events leads him to reclaim his destiny, Miracleman is reborn. But Miracleman's return threatens to unravel Moran's life. Their connections to Dr. Emil Gargunza and Project Zarathustra bring with them disturbing revelations and trigger the return of a childhood friend who, beneath his sinister smile, has become something terrifying. Pushing the concept of the super hero to its logical conclusion, MIRACLEMAN is nothing short of a revelation. The series reinvented the super hero and 40 years later stands as one of the influential works in the comic book artform. This first-ever Omnibus edition collects MIRACLEMAN BOOKS ONE through THREE, complete with a massive trove of covers, original artwork and rare features. Collecting MIRACLEMAN (1985) #1, #3 and #6-16; MARVELMAN SPECIAL #1 and material from A1 (1989) #1 and WARRIOR #1-18 and #20-21 [as presented in Miracleman (2014) #1-16] - plus ALL-NEW MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL #1. Comic book deconstruction at its finest. Go into it blind and power through some of the weird alien stuff. When a peaceful protest at an atomic power station is overtaken by terrorists, Moran is present and is taken hostage. In the throes of a migraine - he sees the ‘magic word’ (that has eluded him for decades but haunts his dreams) written on a glass door: ‘Kimota’. When he speaks this aloud he transforms into Miracleman, incapacitates the terrorists and flies away. a b c Khoury, George (2001). "The Architect of Miracleman". Kimota! The Miracleman Companion. This new printing will give readers another chance to witness Miracleman’s incredible origins, his most breathtaking feats, and the relevant and dramatic struggles of his alter-ego, freelance reporter Michael Moran, who must reconcile his life as the lesser half of a god—all depicted in glorious Omnibus format! Considered one of the medium’s greatest masterpieces, Miracleman’s adventures launched a new wave of comic book storytelling, and its extraordinary impact on the Super Hero genre is still felt to this day. Moore, Alan( w), Davis, Alan( a)."Out of the Dark" Warrior,no.9(January 1983). Quality Communications. Two decades later, Mike Moran is a middle-aged man working as a freelance journalist and happily married to Liz, but he is suffering from mid-life crisis and is plagued by headaches. He remembers nothing of his adventures as Miracleman, but has recurring dreams of flying and of the terrible fate that apparently befell the Miracleman family when they were caught in a nuclear explosion. Who knows maybe I’m another gen Z kid with no respect for the classics, maybe it’s a product of it’s time and I can’t experience how ground breaking it was like when it came out. All I know for certain is that I found it painfully boring.

And yes, there is more, with the amount of extra's offered here being about the sum total of the run itself. I've never seen so much bonus content in any omnibus before, but they did need to pad it out to justify omnibus status, and the price tag. That said, a lot of restoration has gone into this.a b c d Skinn, Dez( w)."Marvelman - The Mightiest Man in the Universe" Warrior,no.1(March 1982). Quality Communications. Heidi MacDonald (14 September 2012). "Marvel now owns MIRACLEMAN…the trademark". The Beat - the Blog of Comics Culture. I almost run out of superlatives when it comes to describing the sheer, unadulterated force that is Alan Moore. My favourite comic book author by a sizeable margin. There is Alan Moore's writing, and then there is everyone elses. The gulf really is that wide. And despite modern comics being a shower of unreadable shite, one of the few saving graces is that there is never a shortage of Alan Moore's works being collected in hardcover format. One of the many benefits of having oodles of talent, that no matter how much some people may wish to cancel you, your books sell that bloody well, neither Disney Marvel nor Dead Company can afford to keep his works out of print. That’s a little bit where I got bored, though. Moore loves going on at length, using narration to cram in every detail he doesn’t have time to explore or show through art, and you can feel him really start to blast through all his remaining ideas in the latter quarter of this. He still finds time for some thrilling, upsetting action toward the end, but I think a bit more narrative time would’ve made it all easier to process and witness. As is it kind of starts to feel like a Wikipedia entry.

EXCLUSIVE: Quesada Details "Miracleman's" Marvel-ous Return". Comic Book Resources. 13 November 2013.

A three-year hiatus followed, with Marvel Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort assuring fans that it would be published as "soon as everything is ready". [73] Quesada would attribute the delay to wanting to "do it right", including acquiring original artwork and high-quality Photostats for restoration. Others have noted other potential factors, including ongoing uncertainty over who owned the 'Miracleman trademark (speculated to have actually been owned by McFarlane) and negotiations with Moore over the permission Marvel needed to reprint his work. [39] By 2012 Marvel had secured the 'Miracleman' trademark [74] and at New York Comic Con 2013 announced the reprints and eventual continuation would use this name, contrary to previous proclamations. [75] [76] [22] Marvel opted to title the revival material 'Miracleman', while retaining 'Marvelman' for potential future use. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Quesada said this was because it "was the coolest name" and was the name Marvel staff used when discussing the character. [77] The ‘Spookshow’, a government agency, recruits Evelyn Cream to kill Moran. Cream instead kidnaps Moran and they agree to work together to discover Miracleman’s real origins. This leads them to a hidden bunker in the countryside where Miracleman encounters various ineffectual traps and a deranged superhuman called Big Ben, who he subdues effortlessly. But what I’m saying is, these are basically the Alan Moore Thematic Greatest Hits, and he’s firing on all cylinders with them here. I really loved reading about 90% of this. His attentiveness to the characters and world is on point and feels very similar to his approach to Swamp Thing, which he would begin writing shortly after this with some of the same artists. The series grows and morphs as it continues, at first reading as a fairly straightforward but above-average superhero comic, before turning into a treatise on the human reliance on the divine. Khoury, George (2001). "The Architect of Miracleman". Kimota! The Miracleman Companion. TwoMorrows Publishing. ISBN 9781605490274.

With the help of Qys and Warpsmith agents including Aza Chorn, the initial alien/superhuman project is to gather together all the remaining superhumans on Earth and work in secret to begin to nudge Earth towards a more enlightened path. This is cut short, however, by the sudden re-emergence of Kid Miracleman. As a result of their single night together, Liz becomes pregnant with Miracleman’s child, an event that fuels Mike Moran’s feelings of inadequacy in comparison to his superhuman alter-ego.
