About this deal

John Lennon: vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, piano; whistling on ‘Jealous Guy;’ harmonica on ‘Oh Yoko’ Away from the deep soup-y reverb of the album version, this much earlier recording from 16 February 1971 features Bobby Keys on saxophone with a looser, more reggae feel. a b Erlewine, Stephen Thomas. On some of John’s guide vocals, say ‘How Do You Sleep? (takes 5 and 6)’, the out-take vocal is arguably more effective than the final version. Imagine' is many people's favorite Lennon song. I absolutely loathe it. I believe I have commented on this before, but the lyrics are full of communist propaganda. No heaven. No God. No possessions. Who lives in this world? Nobody. Follow the advice of this song, and you are probably a real 'nowhere man'. As you come from no country, because there are no countries, right? Experience, in immersive Surround Sound, the moment John and The Plastic Ono Band record each song, raw and live, from a sonic soundstage at the centre of Ascot Sound Studios at John & Yoko’s home in Tittenhurst. George Harrison: electric guitar on ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Soldier Mama I Don’t Wanna Die Mama I Don’t Wanna Die,’ ‘Gimme Some Truth,’ ‘Oh My Love,’ and ‘How Do You Sleep?;’ dobro on ‘Crippled Inside’ Side one: "Baby Please Don't Go" (Walter Ward), "Imagine", "How Do You Sleep?" Side two: "Jealous Guy", "Oh My Love" (Lennon–Ono), "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier".

Recorded four days before the master take on 23 May 1971, it’s a bit looser and covered in reverb, but it’s fully formed and beautifully raw with a little bluesy ending. All songs written by John Lennon, except "Oh My Love", "God Save Us", "Do the Oz", " God Save Oz" and " Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", co-written with Yoko Ono, and "Baby Please Don't Go", written by Walter Ward.John composed the string arrangements to be relatively simple and confidently placed – sometimes strong, sometimes delicate. One of the most exciting discoveries in this project was that the original recordings of the strings sound so beautiful. They are played by some of the very best classical musicians in the world and they were also recorded exceptionally well. Listening to them on their own was a revelation (more about that in the Elements Mixes section). Stripped down, the songs and performances are put into sharp focus: Listening to ‘Gimme Some Truth’ with no slap echo on the voice, you can feel the froth coming out of John’s mouth. The song could have been written and recorded this morning. The Official Charts Company – Album chart for 07/02/1981". The Official Charts Company. Archived from the original on 3 April 2015 .
