About this deal

This is the question which I tried to find an answer to throughout my teenage years. I opted for becoming a better human being than a better student. The author is answering a similar question in this book. This is my favorite line from this book Many thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster, and Jay Shetty for an ARC of this book! Now available as of 9.8.20!* Jay's ability to write with such truth and wisdom when it comes to love and life is masterful. Somehow a topic that has always felt larger than I could handle now feels within reach. This book left me feeling confident and clear about how to move through Love with grace." — Shawn Mendes I’ve read many books in this genre and was very excited about this book when I learned about the author and his transformative journey. And here is me, not knowing the criteria of monkdom, thinking this guy is a legit monk. Turns out nope, just spent some time in an ashram.

Jay Shetty has written a book especially for you. He takes abstract concepts like compassion and humility and makes them applicable to your life. He teaches us how to emotionally reflect on our daily motivations in life. Why are we doing the things we do? He reminds us that success won’t guarantee happiness but being in touch with our mind and soul will lead us to our purpose and meaning. And this, ultimately will bring us joy. Thank you Jay for embarking on this journey so that we can learn from it. When you spend your time and energy living in your dharma, you have the satisfaction of using your best abilities and doing something that matters to the world. Living in your dharma is a certain route to fulfillment.

Jay’s thrill seeking ventures saw him get suspended from school on multiple occasions as he tried to find his identity. He lost two of his best friends when he was 16, one in a car accident and the other due to gang violence. These tragic events really made him reflect on what a blessing life is and he felt the need to find deeper purpose and meaning. Complainers, like the friend on the phone, who complain endlessly without looking for solutions. Life is a problem that will be hard if not impossible to solve. One professor didn’t realize that there was a fire extinguisher just inches from the office he’d occupied for twenty-five years. (c) In the Hitopadeśa, an ancient Indian text by Nārāyana, the mind is compared to a drunken monkey that’s been bitten by a scorpion and haunted by a ghost. (c) It probably is, in our digital age! Things like anxiety, negativity, disappointment, stress, deteriorating quality of relationships, media clutter, device overdose, and inadequate sleep are ailments that bother most of us. In that sense, ‘ Think Like a Monk’ is specifically written to cater to the needs of the twenty-first-century individual.
