About this deal

I think you’ll find he’s just as impressive on dry land,’ said the commander, after the applause had died down. ‘He’s already served for three years with the Regional Crime Squad in Crawley. However, there’s something else I ought to mention before—’ Book Genre: British Literature, European Literature, Fiction, Historical, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Mystery Thriller, Suspense, Thriller I really appreciate the author’s way of engaging the reader in the story, in a sense that these characters start feeling like family/friends and we want everything to go good for them. Worse than that, I’m afraid. They didn’t even turn up, and neither did the shipment of diamonds. I spent an evening with twenty of my men armed to the teeth, staring out to sea. So do tell me the good news, sir.’ Once again, the story benefits from a sharp, crisp delivery that demands your attention and is filled with snappy dialogue, a compelling court scene and repeated blindsides designed to throw everyone off balance.

In the other continuing thread from the earlier book, Miles Faulkner, is now serving a suspended four year sentence for Art theft and fighting a divorce suit with his wife Christina. He settles on giving up all his Artwork, his estate and the Flat in Eaton Square in his divorce settlement. But, unbeknownst to Christina, he plans to part with none of his wealth. In collusion with his counsel and sometimes without his knowledge, he plans a daring move – one designed to remove the paintings from Christina’s grasp and wrest control of his mansion too, by bankrupting Christina. Mrs Faulkner will be well aware of any other criminal activities her husband is involved in, which would be useful for us to know about,’ said Lamont, ‘in advance. We are still treated to updates on William’s personal life and it was lovely to see his relationship with Beth grow and to follow them on the next steps in their lives. I really liked the way that Jeffrey Archer mixed the personal struggles with the professional ones. It worked particularly well in this book and made me feel a closer connection to the story and the characters. The plot takes a surprising number of turns and twists throughout the novel, many of which are not expected. In addition to the excitement of unravelling the mystery and mastery of the drug lord, this book features a number of touching moments that are shared between William and Beth, William and his father, and Grace and her father. These moments contributed to the book's overall appeal and applause-worthy quality. The man the investigation focuses on, who runs this drug trade, is known only as the Viper and he’s particularly careful when it comes to his movements. Infiltrating the Viper’s nest is going to be an all-consuming and difficult job. I've read many books by this author and he truly is a solid 4 stars for me...sometimes higher. I enjoy his story telling. I could listen to the audios all day. He brings his characters to life with great details. So much so, they feel like family. I will say though that the MCs tend to be a little on the perfect side, but it works. Usually that kind of things bugs me, but not here. Although the characters are lovable there is one, the great Sir Julian, that shows some racism and even prejudice against women.

Ein toller zweiter Band, der mir sogar besser als der erste gefallen hat. Der Schreibstil war mal wieder typisch Jeffrey Archer. Genau deswegen finde ich seine Bücher so toll!Blah. This book was just too slow and too dull to finish reading - A detective story with no umph, that crawled along until I had to put it down when I was Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the incredible Lord Jeffrey Archer for an advance copy.

No, sir. I’ve no idea what she wants. But she makes no secret of the fact that she’s just as keen as we are to see her husband behind bars. So, I don’t imagine she’s suggesting tea at the Ritz simply to sample their clotted cream scones.’No, sir. I thought I’d say nothing to Beth until you’d decided what course of action we should take.’ The plot seems interesting, right? Well, the book is not interesting at all. The book was made extremely boring because of the long conversations made by each character in each chapter. The writing was simple and not at all suspenseful. The only good thing about this book was that I could somehow keep on reading it. It wasn't gripping or anything, the story was a bit good so I thought of continuing it. I loved that the team got to stay together even though they moved departments. I definitely felt that their bonds had grown the longer that they had worked together, including the odd bit of banter between them which made me smile. There’s still more I’d like to know about some members of the team and there was definitely a teaser at the end of the book that leads me to believe that I will get that from the third book. Kudos, Lord Archer, for another success. I can't get enough of your books and look forward to the next publication.
