This increases Glyceryl Stearate's affinity for water and gives it stronger emulsifying abilities. The unfancy name for it is lye. It’s a solid white stuff that’s very alkaline and used in small amounts to adjust the pH of the product and make it just right. It’s not something new: it was introduced around 1950 and today it can be used up to 1% worldwide. It can be found in nature - in green tea - but the version used in cosmetics is synthetic. Exactly what it sounds: nice smelling stuff put into cosmetic products so that the end product also smells nice. Fragrance in the US and parfum in the EU is a generic term on the ingredient list that is made up of 30 to 50 chemicals on average (but it can have as much as 200 components!).

Other than having a good safety profile and being quite gentle to the skin it has some other advantages too. It’s the most commonly used version of pure vitamin E in cosmetics. You can read all about the pure form here. This one is the so-called esterified version. When assessing a moisturiser, of course, we're looking at its efficacy to see whether it produces brighter, better-hydrated skin. Since everyone's skin is slightly different, we're mindful to test products for combination, acne-prone, dry and all manner of other skin types as well, whether you've got serious money to spend or want something that's both affordable and effective. With over 50 moisturisers tested, we're confident you'll find a product that's perfect for you. Buying a moisturiser with a built-in SPF is a bit like paying that bit extra to be fully covered. It might be tempting to steal whatever your other half is using when it comes to skincare, but a moisturiser catered to your skin’s needs should be a staple in your kit (and it keeps you out of the bad books). Heath, Moisturiser is a lightweight, facial moisturiser that will hydrate the skin and smooth out any uneven skin tones.
