About this deal

This is my second Fujifilm camera and I am more than happy with it. It feels very good and snug in the hand and is very straightforward to use. I like the option of the viewfinder although the screen is good and has a brightness control. The resulting pictures are of high quality and indoor use has been particularly good. The zoom is quite exceptional and transforms nature photography. There are also a number of other features that would normally come only on a camera costing considerably more. while this was taken on the high-saturation “chrome” setting. The colours are more saturated, especially the greens. The camera itself is a SLR type look-alike with a long lens which has a thread so that you could add another lens.

Taken in natural colour mode, this shot again shows the slightly muted colours, as well as the ghastly purple fringes around the brighter highlights. Its body format is what has become known as SLR-style, and indeed it does look exactly like a tiny SLR. Its diminutive size isn’t really apparent until you place it next to a real full-size SLR; even compared to my small *ist D the S5600 looks like a half-scale model of a real camera. Couple this with good to above-average imaging results and excellent value for money, and this capable camera is a tempting prospect for those looking for an affordable SLR-style digital super zoom. Tim McCann An enhanced ergonomic design of even smaller proportions, which make the camera portable and easy to hold in one hand, whilst retaining its powerful 10x optical zoom.

Features new to the S5600 include an automatic pop-up flash, a Highlight warning that indicates if an area is overexposed, and VGA movie recording at a rate of 30fps. As well as Manual Exposure, users also have the option to shoot in RAW and JPEG. With a modern and clean interface, it is designed to be simple and intuitive for novice users. Many necessary functions located in the main window; that includes a few basic functions, such as adding photos, sorting, and printing. The editing functions are located in the main window which allows you to perform basic editing options such as cropping, resizing, and adjusting the brightness and contrast of a photo. ISO 200 is the default setting in automatic mode, and produces superb results that are still completely noise-free. At the maximum sensitivity setting of 1600 ISO there is some image noise present, and a lot of fine detail has been sacrificed, but colour rendition is still very good and the image would still make a decent print.

New to the S5600 is an Anti-Blur mode, which the company asserts is more effective than image stabilization technology found on other cameras. It works by using the onboard image processor to increase the shutter speed in poor light by boosting the ISO from 64 up to 1,600. The Natural Light exposure mode also uses the camera's processor to produce low noise images using high ISO settings in low light situations when flash cannot be used. This was shot at 200 ISO, giving a shutter speed of 1/160th, which with the camera’s superb handling is fast enough for this zoom shot.
