The Goodreads giveaway is still open in Canada for another couple of days if you want to get in on it! William does not mention that Avery was home or that he hit her. Erin tells the police that Avery is impulsive and defiant.

Right from the beginning. Lapena does an excellent job of giving us an up-close look into the neighbourhood of Stanhope. It’s no different from your everyday suburban community — there are secrets on every street. An incredibly clever set-up that made for one of the most gripping and surprising thrillers I've read in a while. A one-sitting read." - Catherine Ryan HowardVanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast discusses American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Martin Sherwin and Kai Birdand asks: “ Should You Read the Book First?” Shari Lapena is an amazingly reliable author. I can always count on her books to be a unique, entertaining and suspenseful treat. She writes domestic thrillers that have me on edge from start to finish. This latest release grabbed me from chapter one and kept my curiosity and interest piqued until the very end.

Lucy Campbell’s debut, Lowbridge (Ultimo Press), is more standard thriller fare, although none the worse for it. Moving between 1987, when 17-year-old Tess goes missing from her sleepy Australian town, and 2018, when her mother, Katherine, becomes obsessed with what happened to her, it is intriguing and compelling. My thanks to Penguin Random House Canada via Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own. The police investigation reveals an underbelly of lies and scandals in their neighborhood. Oh what a web we weave…. A smart, unguessable mystery set among a cast of satisfyingly flawed characters. Shari Lapena is an auto-buy for me - I always know I'll be in for a treat!' Dr William Wooler is a well-respected husband and professional in the small town of Stanhope. William also has a secret; he has been having an affair. Why didn’t William and Nora get rid of their burner phones? Each of them spends a HUGE amount of time worrying that they are going to get caught and the phones are going to be found, but they do nothing about it. Gripping, clever, and tightly plotted, EVERYONE HERE IS LYING showcases Shari Lapena at her absolute best. I was utterly transfixed. A must-read.” LA Times explains what Jonathan Franzen and Joseph Epstein, The Novel, Who Needs It? (Encounter), are missing about the “death of the novel.” An intriguing cast, an isolated location, a raging storm and the threat of death in every dark corner: An Unwanted Guest reads like Agatha Christie with a shot of adrenalin. Clear your desk before you start it because you won't want to put it down."

Stanhope is supposed to be a safe place, but the disappearance of 9-year-old Avery reveals a dark side to the close-knit community. Everyone Here Is Lying is a perfectly-plotted thriller that moves whip-fast. It’s filled with lies, betrayals, and so many twists. The ending will make your heart stop. Without a doubt, my new favorite book by Shari Lapena.”

Slyly plotted . . . Lapena skillfully maximizes suspense with her dual story lines that eventually collide, as well as some deft misdirection . . . many fans of domestic suspense will be satisfied." Italy: a horror movie filmed in a crumbling, possibly haunted, castle owned by the estranged aunt of the starlet. What could be better? As the lines between reality and the movie plot begin to blur in this tautly written novel, family secrets begin to emerge that if revealed, might lead to unforeseen (and possibly deadly) consequences for everyone.”— Jennifer Winberry, Hunterdon County Library, NJ Erin tells Gully that she knows about the witness. Gully asks her who told her, and she says William did. Then Erin asks Gully if she told William about the witness. She didn’t, which makes Erin realize that Nora must have told William, and that his affair was with Nora. Hours later, Avery is missing. Where could she be or rather has someone taken her? As the hours drag into days, the neighborhood is thrown into chaos, and the neighbors are all pointing fingers at possible culprits starting with William. The police think they have their man when a neighbor steps in to add that she saw Avery get into a car with a young neighborhod boy.

The best part of the book is its impeccable pacing. The mystery entices you, urging you to make guesses about who committed the crime, who took Avery, the 9-year-old little girl. The story weaves a plotline that combines the intrigue of "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and the tension of "Prisoners." As the title suggests, there are multiple suspects, and everyone seems to be hiding something, making it hard to pinpoint the perpetrator and their motive. A] fast-paced whodunit. . . Not a Happy Family works well as a crime novel, and there are some fun surprises. Overall, Lapena has produced another engaging and entertaining read." Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbors become increasingly unhinged. Despite the characters' flaws and their frustrating decisions, they felt real and human, adding depth to the story. Little Michael's innocence tugged at my heartstrings, while William's guilt-ridden struggle kept me emotionally invested in the outcome. It was fascinating to see how the events unfolded, with each chapter unraveling a new layer of secrets and lies.No-one does suburban paranoia like Shari Lapena--this slowly unfurling nightmare will have you biting your nails until the end." NYT has a feature on pet cemetery owner turnedfelonturned best-selling ghostwriterLara Love Hardin. Avery is mad about the way things are going and has lots of questions for Marion. What did the police ask Marion when she was questioned? Why isn’t her father being blamed? William Wooler has been having an affair, with his beautiful neighbor, Nora-an affair that ended unexpectedly this afternoon at a motel up the road. Now here’s a neighborhood thriller done right! I’ve read a handful of mediocre neighborhood thrillers recently so Everyone Here Is Lying was such a refreshing change. As the title suggests, this is one of those neighborhoods where everyone has a secret they don’t want their neighbors or the police to know. I loved listening to these twists unfold.
