About this deal

Designed for 2-4 players and suitable for ages 10 and up, The Quest for El Dorado is a game that's easy to learn but challenging to master. With stunning artwork and high-quality components, it's a game that's as visually appealing as it is fun to play. The worst thing I can say about the components is the cards are those mini cards rather than standard sized, and though I understand the space-saving reasons for using them they just don’t shuffle or play as well as regular cards. The board is setup based on the difficulty they have chosen to assemble. Players will take their expedition board and the eight starting cards that match their color: 1 sailor, 3 explorers, and 4 travelers. A preset number of starting cards for the Market Board are set with the other cards placed above it to be added later. Setup can be a bit of a chore for such a light game but honestly for this game in particular the setup is half the fun. You see the game board is made up of many different double sided tiles so setting up is actually connecting these tiles to create a map of your design to race on. This can get really interesting if you are the type to customize your game experience. And if not there are pre-built designs that you can use as well in the box.The modular board is ace. Setting it up in different ways allows for oodles of replayability, especially as each section is double-sided. Not only that, it can be made shorter or longer to adjust the length of the game. Overall, The Quest for El Dorado looks great as the board sprawls across the table. I like its overall table presence. Nothing to scream about with the box. It’s on the smaller side and, well, it’s a box. No insert of any kind so you will want to bag up all the cards. There really isn’t a ton of stuff that needs to be bagged up so for this game in particular it really isn’t a big deal it doesn’t have an insert. It is a smaller sized box so you can for sure squeeze it on your shelf. Great online store for board games. They always arrive perfectly and undamaged which is important to me.

El mejor juego de mesa que he comprado hasta ahora, tanto que decidí comprar la primera expansión, la cual es también muy buena. For example, a Machete card with power of 2 can be used to move onto a hex with 1 machete and then move again onto a space with 1 machete. But two cards with a power of 1 each may not be combined to move onto a hex showing 2 machetes. This high powered card will let me cross many jungle spaces in a row! It does have an adventure theme to it but a very light adventure theme. Honestly it’s not so much an adventure as it’s just a straight up race. There are no tiles to flip and explore other than the cave stuff. OH YEAH! The cave stuff. This is the one aspect of the game that shakes it up a bit and even though the instructions come off like the cave tiles are optional, I wouldn’t ever play a game without them. With the actually rather large pile of different tiles for the caves you will shuffle those up and place 4 facedown cave tiles on each cave space on the map. Now there is only one cave on each gameboard tile and if you end your movement next to a cave then you can nab the top cave tile for yourself and these have different beneficial things on them to aid you on your journey. The main reason I like these so much is they add some much needed flavor to the game. Visually the game is so-so. The art isn’t bad per say but it’s just….bland. I mean I know I said it earlier but this game just needs some flash added to it in all aspects.

The Quest for El Dorado debuted in 2017 with editions in German, English, and French, and the game was nominated for the 2017 Spiel des Jahres, losing out to Kingdomino. The game later appeared from Ravensburger in an Italian/Spanish edition, with the Heroes & Hexes expansion appearing in a German/English edition in 2018 and the standalone sequel The Golden Temples being announced, again only in German and English, in early 2019. The game plays in about an hour at a brisk pace. The cards are not all that complex and there are only so many places you can moved based on what cards you draw so usually player turns are like rapid fire regardless of player count. And I love that about this game, it moves at such a great pace that you can easily jump in and get to playing and it will end before you even know it.

In The Quest for El Dorado by Ravensburger players traverse jungle, waterways, and native villages to find the elusive treasure. They must prepare well to make the journey. But they can’t spend all their time preparing or they’ll be left behind and another explorer will beat them to it. Twins from Rosie Roberson appears to have Spot it!-style gameplay, with 2-5 players trying to find matches on their card with a central card. Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend. When playing cards, a player first plays cards used for movement. Each hex space on the board shows the type requirement to move onto it (machete, paddle, or coin) as well as the amount (“power”). The power value on the card must be equal or higher than the power on the hex.

If a player comes to a stop next to a cave, that player explores it. The player takes the top cave token and puts it face up in front of them. The market place is formed with the starting cards and the additional cards should be placed nearby.
