Death on the Nile is also the title of a short story by Christie published in 1934 in the volume Parker Pyne Investigates. Apart from the setting and title, the stories are not similar. Poirot eventually realizes that Salome Otterbourne is a secret alcoholic, and what Rosalie was throwing overboard was her mother's hidden cache of spirits. Rosalie admits this but firmly denies seeing anyone leaving Linnet's cabin on the night of the murder. Confronted, Simon and Jacqueline confess to the plot. Jacqueline says that she and Simon have always been in love, and Simon never cared for Linnet, even when she tried to steal him away from Jacqueline. Jacqueline tells Poirot that the idea of murdering Linnet for her money was Simon's, but she planned it, knowing Simon was not smart enough to pull it off by himself. Death on the Nile was released by HarperCollins as a graphic novel adaptation on 16 July 2007, adapted by François Rivière and Solidor ( Jean-François Miniac) ( ISBN 0-00-725058-4). This was translated from the edition first published in France by Emmanuel Proust éditions in 2003 under the title of Mort sur le Nil. This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

My first experience with Agatha Christie was actually watching the film adaptation of Death on the Nile from 1978 staring Peter Ustinov. While I do not think of Ustinov as the definitive Poirot by any means, for the longest time his take was how I viewed the character. While this is not a review of the film, I will say that it is a lovely film and well worth a watch. Signor Richetti is exposed as the foreign agent and criminal Race is after, after Race hears of a telegram Richetti received, using a code that Race recognizes;When Poirot meets Race, Christie writes: "Hercule Poirot had come across Colonel Race a year previously in London. They had been fellow-guests at a very strange dinner party--a dinner party that had ended in death for that strange man, their host." It is a reference to the novel Cards on the Table. I don't know how this happened, but please do not spend money on an attractive edition of the book when the publishing company utterly butchered Agatha Christie's work.

Norwegian: "Hun fulgte etter" (She followed after), later renamed "Mord på Nilen" (Murder on the Nile), since the first title almost revealed the plot. This was my second Poirot after Murder On The Orient Express a few years ago. Seems like that is the one everyone has read! I read that one because I was interested to read it before the new movie version came out. This time I was looking to try another Poirot, and saw that Branagh was doing another run as the detective in an upcoming cinematic version of Death on the Nile, so it was the perfect one to try next. William Carmichael is one of the senior lawyers at Linnet’s English law firm. After he receives a letter from Linnet revealing that she and her new husband Simon Doyle ran into Andrew Pennington during their…Jacqueline is one of the primary antagonists of the novel, originally a friend to Linnet and the fiancé lover of Simon. All that changes, however, when Linnet offers Simon a job (at Jacqueline’s request)… Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie is a 2005 William Morrow publication. (Originally published in 1937) When confronted by Poirot, Simon instantly confesses. Jacqueline does too, and further explains that Simon had never loved Linnet but had wanted her wealth, and so Jacqueline, who herself loved Simon overwhelmingly, masterminded the entire plan: Simon would marry Linnet, then they would murder her and Simon would inherit the money, and then Simon and Jacqueline would be together. Me, I work with my brains and am not ashamed of it," said Poirot.Reading Agatha Christie is always such a treat. I know I'm in for a good time, so I clear out my schedule, put on my comfiest outfit, and settle in for a few hours of fun and cozy-murdering. And Death on the Nile sure delivers.

I watched the first movie adaptation (1978) with Peter Ustinov( he’s brilliant actor but I still loved Albert Finney’s portrait more) Betty Davis, Angela Lansbury and Mia Farrow. The casting is remarkable and the fast pacing and twisty script was true reflection of the story’s essence. The youngest of three children of the Miller family. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880–1929), called Monty, ten years older than Agatha.Poirot then interviews all the passengers. Several of them heard a splash shortly after midnight, and Miss Van Schuyler claims that she looked out her window and saw Rosalie Otterbourne throw something overboard. But Rosalie denies this. A short time later, the murder weapon is recovered from the Nile – Jacqueline's pistol, wrapped in Miss Van Schuyler's missing velvet stole. To Poirot, this makes no sense, when someone wanting to incriminate Jacqueline would have left her pistol behind to incriminate her. M. Gastin Blondin owns a famous London restaurant called Chez Ma Tante, where Hercule Poirot enjoys excellent service because he once helped Blondin by solving a crime that would have put him in a jam… The main detective here is Poirot and Colonel Race helps him and I love their dynamics in this story! I keep discovering new things about Agatha and I can see their influence in the story, just like the fact that she worked as a nurse during the war and that she really did visit Egypt and you can tell by how realistic her writing is! I was actually grinning like a fool when she mentioned the donkey boys and the way they spoke English was very funny yet very true! Robert Barnard: "One of the top ten, in spite of an overcomplex solution. The familiar marital triangle, set on a Nile steamer. Comparatively little local colour, but some good grotesques among the passengers – of which the film took advantage. Spies and agitators are beginning to invade the pure Christie detective story at this period, as the slide towards war begins."
