About this deal

This first release covers all the 1970s episodes. The second release (date TBA) will cover the episodes from 1989-2003. There’s a clip somewhere of Falk on Carson, excited about the upcoming 1974 “Exercise in Fatality” episode and “new writer” Peter Fischer. I’ve seen it before, can’t find it today. Ed Begley Jr. as Irving Krutch (Jon Beshara and an uncredited actor also portray two characters who kill each other) I imported the Japan Blu-ray box several years ago. The ’89-’03 movies are presented in 16×9. I really like some of those later episodes (and really don’t care for some of them) and would prefer having them in the original broadcast ratio. There are a few instances where relevant information is cropped off the bottom in the widescreen versions.

Though not a repeat murderer, Robert Vaughn starred in two episodes: once as the murderer in "Troubled Waters" (1975), and once as the victim in "Last Salute to the Commodore" (1976).Ed Begley Jr played the murderer in "Undercover" (1994) and played Officer Stein in "How to Dial a Murder" (1978). Another thought…Columbo is always saying to the killer, “oh, my wife just loves you, she thinks you’re the greatest…” or words to that effect. Poor Mrs. Columbo…all her favorite people turn out to be killers! Must be devastating for her!! Apart from that, any Peter Falk talk show appearances or award speeches would be fun. Gotta wonder if any deleted or gaffe footage has survived. If so, seems like this may be the best opportunity to unearth them. I watched Columbo in the 70s but inevitably missed some episodes. I was given the box set for Xmas and we’ve watched usually an episode several times a week and are now into Season 5. Some 50 years later I do occasionally fall asleep near the end, but always do a recap.

The thing I’ve been hoping for is that it’ll include the Chevy Mystery Hour episode with Bert Freed (and I’ve been reply-guying Kino-Lorber about it just to get it on their radar). Lachman, Marvin (2014). The villainous stage: crime plays on Broadway and in the West End. McFarland. ISBN 978-0-7864-9534-4. OCLC 903807427.People forget there’s a balance between getting a bargain and making money for the charity. If someone donates something, not knowing its true second hand value, and the person pricing things up knows their stuff and realises it’s rare and will fetch a few bob, they’re not going to give it away at a basement price. The restoration has been done by Universal Pictures and they're being released by Kino Lorber. The US release date is 21st November 2023.

While a Japanese Blu-ray boxset has been available for some years, its prohibitive pricing has placed it out of reach of most fans. I’m also not aware of any extensive extras on that particular set. More than merely releasing the series in glorious HD, the new boxsets will provide the sort of extras fans have been clamouring for since Columbo was first made available on DVD in the early 2000s. For the Blu-ray, each episode will feature audio commentary from experts of the day as well as archival excerpts from those involved in the production. But what makes Columbo still feel so relevant today is the notion of the crusading little guy. The lieutenant pursued killers regardless of class or status – even going after his own commissioner in one story – and never falters in his belief that, no matter how mighty the murderer, their amassed power won’t stand up to his relentless prodding. As he casually tells a therapist who is trying to get away with strangling his wife: “You take our friend here, the murderer. He’s very smart, but he’s an amateur. I mean, he’s got just one time to learn. Just one. And with us cops, well – it’s a business. We do this a hundred times a year. I’ll tell ya, doc, that’s a lot of practice.”

Leslie Williams ( Lee Grant), a brilliant and ruthless lawyer, murders her husband Paul ( Harlan Warde) to get his money, arranging the act to look as if he had been kidnapped and killed by his captors. As a graphic designer, I prepared a 3D map of Los Angeles to present this work (printed in large format) and I would be proud to offer it to you… Jigsaw Planet: If you love Columbo AND jigsaw puzzles, fill your boots with this online treasure trove of, you guessed it, Columbo jigsaw puzzles! Get to it here! Video Essential viewing! The first of several Peter Falk “Columbo” appearances on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show”, 9/15/72: Falk on the couch wearing his raincoat: “Listen, Johnny, I don’t wanna plug the show….”

William Shatner starred in two episodes as the murderer: "Fade in to Murder" (1976) and "Butterfly in Shades of Grey" (1994). He also did a voiceover in "Double Exposure" (1974). The official Columbo YouTube channel: this launched in second half of 2017 anduploads new videos each week. These could be anything from legendary scenes, best-of compilation clips and FULL EPISODES! Visit the channel here. Sadly I cannot guarantee full episodes are viewable in all jurisdictions, but I can view them fine in Australia so hopefully you can too!

Because the Columbo episodes from 1989 to 2003 aired infrequently, different DVD sets have been released around the world. In Region 2 and 4, all episodes have now been released as 10 seasons, with the 10th season covering the last 14 episodes from "Columbo Goes to College" (1990) to the series finale, "Columbo Likes the Nightlife" (2003). [1] In France and the Netherlands (also Region 2), however, the DVDs were released as 12 seasons. [2] In Region 1, all episodes from season 8 are grouped differently; all the episodes that were originally aired on ABC were released as the COLUMBO: The Mystery Movie Collection. [3] For the sake of clarity, all episodes in this article are arranged as they appear in the UK release.
