Me ha encantado la historia. Debo reconocer que al principio me preocupaba lo que pudiese salir de la historia porque he leído el de Frozen, que esta misma autora escribió para esta saga de libros, y no me gustó nada. Así que no quería ni pensar que se volviese a repetir, pero ha sido toda una sorpresa. I'm Jen Calonita, a MG and YA author who loves what I do because it lets me connect with all of you (and no, I wasn't intending for that to rhyme!). Besides her, we got see everyone from the movie - which YAY! I loved seeing Hades being in love because it was both adorable and hilarious at the same time. Then there's Phil and him being great with a baby was all kinds of cute. I can't forget Pegasus one bit either. I enjoyed him and Meg getting closer because of how he acted when she was with Hercules. Also, the quests! Ah - so insane!

Facilier certainly doesn’t want to have to pay Tiana’s debt to his friends so he tries to bully her into signing the deal. Thankfully Tiana is smarter than that and refuses to sign. The Shadow Man becomes more desperate and makes threats against Tiana and her family but she still stands firm. I need to see you understand love is a strength, not a weakness. I loved her strength and her ability to question herself. Hercules was one of my favorite movies as a kid. To be honest, most Disney movies were my favorite as a kid. But I did sing “Go the Distance” for an audition when I was sixteen, so it’s safe to say that the film has always held a special place in my heart. So it should really come as no surprise that I was instantly intrigued by the newest inclusion to Disney’s A Twisted Tale collection. If you haven’t heard of the A Twisted Tale anthology series, it is a collection of "what-if" spin-offs based on your favorite Disney films, and Go the Distance gives readers a chance to explore a scenario where Megara goes on a quest to become a goddess. In Almost There the premise is, what if Tianamade a deal that changed everything? Will she get what she’s always wanted? Will she want it once she gets it? And the most important question of all is, will it be worth the price? Joining her for support is Philoctetes, better known as Phil. The coach to the Gods. If anyone can help Meg work through her quest, it's him. And let's not forget Pegasus!! He's along as well, to give Meg a helping hoof. ISBN 9781761200205.I loved the twist, the reasons that led Tiana to strike a deal with Facilier, and how Facilier managed to screw up the terms of the contract. this had all the elements a fun adventure story—a high-stakes quest, a hades/persephone subplot, greek mythology in general—but the execution just fell flat. it reads more like bland middle grade fiction than ya, it turns a tough, sarcastic heroine into a sappy mary sue, and the dialogue is so stilted.

A graphic novel version of the 2018 book Part of Your World, adapted by Stephanie Kate Strohm, was released June 13, 2023. [18] A graphic novel version of the 2020 book Straight On Till Morning, adapted by Liz Braswell, is currently in development. Well, that was disappointing. I had high hopes for this one for two reasons. First, I adore the movie Hercules. Second, I read the Mulan retelling from this series written by Elizabeth Lim and loved it. I hoped this one would be as good. Buuuuuuut... it's not. Anyone can relate to Tiana and her choices so everyone can enjoy this story. And anyone can benefit from this great representation of New Orleans in the early 1900s. I recommend Almost There to everyone and all ages. Curl up with this book and some beignets this fall and enjoy! L' écriture : elle était beaucoup trop jeunesse pour moi. Je sais que les twisted tales sont des YA mais c'était plus young que adult. Comme c'est mon 1er Twisted Tales de la série je n'ai aucune idée de la façon dont sont écrits les autres mais je peux dire que celui-ci ne vise pas un public de plus de 12 ans. Quand bien même j'en aurait eu 10 et que l'écriture ne m'aurait pas dérangée, je n'en aurait pas pensé autant de l'histoire... Buy all the Cabbage Patch Kids in the world and give them away for free (because apparently that was how I rolled).As for the plot it was just weird and all over the place. The gods helping her out was an interesting touch but the conversations felt so stilted and awkward. Just none of it worked and in truth Meg would have mostly died due to these quests she did and would have never made it to Hades but the plot had deus ex machina after deus ex machina to make everything just fall into place for her in the most unrealistic way possible with no smooth transition. One of the highlights of Go the Distance is that so much of the book is centered around female friendships. Megara is assisted by Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite; Megara is sent on a quest to rescue Katerina from the Underworld; the Underworld has a new (and exciting!) goddess on the scene; Megara faces the grief of losing her mother as a child. Female characters are the central force that propels the story forward. I loved that Calonita ensured that Megara’s decision to pursue becoming a goddess wasn’t solely bound to her desire to be with Hercules, but because she was worthy of becoming a goddess by her own merits. Meg fell for man after trying to betray him then he became a god. What’s a girl to do with that except become a god herself. It’s not that simple but it is so fun.
