have studied Japanese grammar but need more comprehensive information about its use in different contexts, Completing the must-have trio of Japanese grammar books is A Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar. This is the next step if you’re ready for more challenging grammar concepts. Not a lot of people enjoy studying grammar. While you don’t give it much thought in your native languages, it’s a completely different story when you’re learning a new language. Now one might say that this is something to be expected, from a book saying "Basic Grammar", but I would definitely say, that if you are a total beginner e.g. just finished learning your hiragana and know a few hundred words, this is definitely not the grammar book for you - it's just way to condense and assumes already some experience with the language.

Well if you’re wanting a book that covers a lot of different Japanese grammar, then I’d have to say the Dictionary of Basic Japanese because the other one (All About Particles) only covers Japanese particles. Appendixes include: conjunction tables for verbs, adjectives, and the copula; semantic classification of verbs (continual, punctual, continual-punctual, etc); everyone's favorite transitive/intransitive verb pairs; connection forms of important expressions; ko-so-a-do; numerals and counters, with a little chart for when to expect pronunciation changes; compound words.

This book is one of the most entertaining ways to learn Japanese grammar. It’s best suited for intermediate learners but it can also be used as a refresher for advanced learners. This book should only be bought by advanced level students… or people who have OCD and must complete the set dslfjksaodfija!! It's also good for JLPT1 students, as it includes all that useless, uncommon grammar that you have to learn for that test. Most people won't have any need for this book, though I guess I've had to use it on rare occasion. The third book also levels up in difficulty with the example sentences and notes, though that's to be expected. It's assuming you're an advanced student of Japanese, after all! Verdict If you have a bit of patience and a bit of Autism and narrow focus, these little books about Japanese Grammar in Dictionary format can teach you the language completely well.I think if you’re still pretty new to Japanese, then it would be worth going over, but if you’ve been studying for a couple months then you could probably skip this section. Designed for learners with limited time but who want to communicate with native Japanese speakers as naturally as possible, this book features short chapters, straightforward explanations, and clear examples that help you understand the underlying principles behind each grammar point. One thing that should be mentioned is that this book is the first in a three part series. There is also a book that covers intermediate grammar, and a book that covers advanced grammar. It then provides a lot of helpful Japanese examples that help the reader see and fully understand it.
