The Red switches have a light, linear typing action that serves up impressive pace, while the Speed Silver switches are shallower and faster. The K100 is impressively robust, and on the inside you can store hundreds of profiles and improve the polling rate – a high-end feature that will be a boon to competitive players.

The Modern97 is one of my favourite keyboards to use from this current batch, as the soft and linear switches are effortless for both typing and gaming, while NKRO (n-key rollover) means all keys can be pressed simultaneously - useful for intense music games and two players using one keyboard for local multiplayer titles like Nidhogg. These keyboards usually have a plastic membrane beneath their buttons, and buttons presses are registered when the membrane pushes downwards. This system is cheaper than mechanical hardware, but it provides a softer experience. A membrane keyboard is a viable alternative for kids, casual gamers, or people who just don’t like the heft of mechanical devices.
