And that's before we even consider what the speedy storage in the Sony Playstation 5 is going to do to revolutionise the market.

Leider muss ich sagen, dass diese Sabrent NVMe mit 3D TLC NAND Flashspeicher für 140 Euro aktuell nicht mehr wirklich ein Schnäppchen ist. Sie macht sich auch selbst Konkurrenz durch eine günstigere Version mit 3D QLC NAND und eine ca. 50 bzw. 30 Euro teurere PCIe 4.0 NVMe mit 3D TLC bzw. 3D QLC NAND, für mich also weder Fisch noch Fleisch. Zumal es auch schon PCIe 3.0 QLC NVMe gibt ab 100 Euro (Unterschiede QLC/TLC siehe ganz unten). R/W speeds seem quite respectable for the storage/cost ratio this provides. I discovered my mainboard (Asus Prime B350M-E) does not see this in BIOS mode (ie. Legacy OPRom), but only when booting UEFI mode. I only ran up against that since I'm booting from this drive. I had to make the switch from using ol' GRUB-BIOS to something UEFI aware, I went with systemd-boot. Beim Kopierbenchmark - der für viele Anwender im Alltag relevant sein sollte - wurden Werte von 3100 mb/s, 1200 mb/s und 1900 mb/s erreicht. Falls der Flash-Speicher jetzt nicht mehr 64 lagiger 3D NAND von Toshiba, sondern 96 lagiger von Micron ist (96L ist allgemein die aktuelle Generation 3D NAND -> verbesserte Schreibraten, kürzere Lebensdauer), wäre mir das total egal solange die Leistung stimmt. Und das scheint ja der Fall zu sein, wenn man sich die letzten Bewertungen hier anschaut. Die Tatsache, dass der Controller bzw. dessen Firmware angepasst werden muss wegen des Generationswechsels von 64L zu 96L 3D-NAND ist ja logisch.

So, it was between Sabrent and Silicon Power, with Sabrent being a few dollars cheaper. My other M.2 drive is Silicon Power so I would have been happy with another M.2 drive from them. But, their warranty is only 3 years (as far as I could determine), and Sabrent was offering 5 years. So, for less money and better warranty, I went with Sabrent. Wenn ich mir jetzt eine NVMe kaufen wollte, wäre dies aber wegen der kürzeren Lebensdauer der QLC Flash-Speicherzellen keine QLC-NVMe und wegen des nicht mehr riesigen Preisunterschieds auf jeden Fall eine PCIe 4.0 NVMe. Von welchem Hersteller auch immer (-> Preise, TBW-Werte und Garantie vergleichen). Solange man kein aktuelles Mainboard mit passendem PCIe 4.0 M.2 Slot hat, kann eine solche NVMe ja auch (mit verringerter maximaler Datenrate) in einen PCIe 3.0/2.0 Slot eingebaut werden wegen der Abwärtskompatibilität der PCIe-Schnittstelle. So wäre man aber auf jeden Fall zukunftstechnisch gerüstet. Übrigens, was meine Mitte 2019 gekaufte Sabrent NVMe betrifft, kann ich nichts negatives sagen. Hinsichtlich der SMART-Werte meldet CrystalDiskInfo "Gesamtzustand Gut 100%".

Diverse letzte Bewertungen lassen darauf schließen, dass an der auf der NVMe verbauten Hardware (Speicher, Controller) Änderungen vorgenommen wurden. Meiner Meinung nach ist diese NVMe für 120 Euro aktuell aber immer noch die preiswerteste 1TB NVMe mit 3D TLC NAND Flash-Speicher. Eine viel teurere Samsung NVMe käme mir jedenfalls wegen des überschaubaren Mehrnutzens (z.B. NVMe Treiber für den Einsatz unter Windows 7) nicht in den Rechner. Verglichen mit der Sabrent gibt es preislich ähnliche gute 1TB NVMe, man sollte aber auch auf eine lange Herstellergarantie und einen hohen TBW-Wert achten. Letzterer Wert ('Tera Bytes Written') ist für den Normalanwender zwar eher von theoretischer Natur, könnte aber die Garantiezeit verkürzen (je nachdem, was zuerst eintritt).
