About this deal

The first time the Skarloey Railway engines interact with standard gauge engines other than Thomas and James since the fifth series. Gordon Takes a Tumble | Henry and the Elephant | Percy Takes a Plunge | Thomas and the Special Letter | James and the Trouble with Trees | Spic and Span | Diesel from Thomas to the Rescue | Emily's Adventure Paxton is based on a British Rail (BR) Class 08 diesel-electric shunter. In the real world, BR Class 08s were in fact the most successful shunting engines in the world with 996 of them built. Over seventy of them are preserved by heritage railways, such as the Dean Forest Railway and museums, such as the National Railway Museum. Around one-hundred BR Class 08s also remain in service on the national rail network. He has been known to work at Blue Mountain Quarry and was once involved in an accident there when Blondin Bridge collapsed. He was then sent to the Sodor Dieselworks for repairs. When Percy enters the Steamworks while Thomas and Belle are there, Percy's wheels are rotating slower than he is moving.

The ship carrying Victor and Luke had a chain around the edge, but the chain is missing when Luke is being unloaded. Before coming to Sodor, Norman worked at a busy marshalling yard on the Mainland, but kept breaking down due to faults in his design. He was only able to shunt a few wagons at a time, which led the yard manager to believe Norman was simply lazy. He was later transferred to Sodor along with Paxton and Sidney, where he was delighted to find his twin, Dennis. [2] At the Sodor Steamworks, Paxton asks Victor if he has any spare puff. Victor is puzzled. Then, Toby puffs in and starts to laugh. Paxton is not impressed; Thomas' missing puff is a very serious matter. Toby explains that "puff" is just another word for "steam" and that Thomas will be fine as soon as his fire dries out. Paxton is left feeling foolish yet again. It's not long before Paxton spots some steam in the distance. Believing it to be the lost puff, Paxton sets off to locate it. When he arrives at the bridge, he sees that the steam is coming from Gordon, who is pulling the express. Then, Paxton sees something which he also believes could be the lost puff above Ulfstead Castle. When he arrives, a rather confused Stephen points out that it is just a cloud. Paxton feels foolish and rattles away to continue his search. As he rolls along, Paxton has an idea and decides to pay Victor a visit at the Sodor Steamworks; after all, Victor knows all about steam engines. According to Sam Barlow, the film originally had some scenes which were deemed too scary for children and Diesel 10 would have been voiced by Rupert Degas.

Den is the diesel engine who runs the Vicarstown Dieselworks, repairing other diesels. He is stately and deeply pensive. He tries to make sure everything he says is deeply considered and can often be heard muttering "what I mean to say is..." and can tend to over-think. He may come across as a little slow, but nothing could be further from the truth. He is rather astute and likes to take into account as much as he can with regards to a problem. Although he is not a worrier, he may tend to be on the fence about taking particular action over a matter before making a calculated, informed decision that will be worth the wait. Diesel is frequently referenced as a metaphor for villains by the character, Lemon, in the 2022 action-comedy film, Bullet Train. The first appearance of Old Bailey in CGI and his first appearance since the fifth series episode, Haunted Henry. Sidney is based on a British Rail (BR) Class 08 diesel-electric shunter. When the narrow gauge engines go onto the upper terrace to get away from Thomas, Rheneas' paint is no longer scratched.

Belle squirting water from her water cannons whilst on the move. This scene was from the fifteenth series episode, Big Belle.

Sidney started life as a shunter on the Mainland, until he unwittingly followed some diesels onto a steamship bound for Sodor. [2] The last special narrated by Michael Angelis in the UK prior to his passing in May 2020 which is eight years later, and the last special narrated by Michael Brandon in the US and Povl Dissing in Denmark which is ten years before his death in 2022.

At Christmas time, he was given the job of transporting a Christmas tree to Ulfstead Castle. But the tree caused him to derail and when Diesel passed by, he refused to help Paxton. That night, Paxton pretended to be the Ghost of Christmas Present to try and remind Diesel of the true meaning of Christmas, but Diesel had gotten too scared to listen and ran away. This special was planned to be shown at South Korean theaters in 2012, hinted by the VOD's release labeling "Let's see it first before we see it in theaters." However, this plan did not go forward. As a result, the other steam engines find that he is likable and Paxton particularly looks up to Thomas at times. He also works alongside the narrow gauge engines frequently. However, Paxton can easily misjudge situations, misplace his trust in someone who might not have everyone's best interests at heart, and is a rather impressionable diesel, but his good nature will ultimately show him for who really wants to be. Starting with this special, Peter Hartshorne joins Robert Hartshorne as composer for the specials, though Robert Hartshorne continues on solo for the episodes.
