About this deal

The mysterious Domino Program has plans for Paige, but she has ambitions of her own in this new citadel. With Arcturus Mesarthim-her former enemy-at her side, she embarks on an adventure that will lead her from the catacombs of Paris to the glittering hallways of Versailles. Her risks promise high reward: the Parisian underworld could yield the means to escalate her rebellion to outright war. I loved getting closer to the truth of the Bone Season world throughout this instalment. 4 books deep and there are still a lot of mysteries to unravel and I enjoyed inching closer with every chapter. Are Shannon’s books YA novels or cautionary tales for adults? In some countries her books are published as adult novels and in others they are marketed as YA. Shannon thinks it doesn’t really matter and it’s time to end the snobbery about YA novels. They were ordinary moments in my newly extraordinary life – and they, in turn, became extraordinary.” The first part - the first three chapters - were already upsetting me. It's an alternate reality England. 200 years ago, some humans started becoming clairvoyant. It's unclear whether this was triggered by something or if it was something that always existed, hidden from the sight of amaurotics (her word for non-clairvoyants). Paige is a clairvoyant, and clairvoyants are hunted, tortured and killed. Your only hope of surviving (legally) in society is to give yourself to the government, who uses you to hunt and kill other clairvoyants.

As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.

This book contains examples of:

NOT that she's sold into sexual slavery - that's not what I mean at all. Instead, this is one of those books, very popular, in which a young, pretty woman is sold into slavery and ends up FALLING IN LOVE with her master. Yes. Disgusting and putrid, I agree. While studying Language and Literature at St. Anne’s College in Oxford, she began writing “The Bone Season.” The novel began she imagined what her daily life might be like if she was clairvoyant.

Despite Paige sort of falling into the classic YA "chosen one" trope, she's a really enjoyable narrator. She develops a lot during the book, and by the end, she has come to this realization that a lot of her pre-Rephaim life was not what she thought it to be (no spoilers, don't worry). She did bug me a couple of times with her relentless sarcasm and cynicism, but it was nothing worth writing home about. Stealth Pun: The train was hidden beneath the training grounds the whole time. Incredibly, this seems to have been intentional on Nashira's part. Unlike pretty much all of the positive review here, I paid for this book and I am not a literary critic. Just a normal person who fell in love the The Bone Season many years ago. A lot of this book, like the others, is mainly plot based, but in this one—we have Paris as our location for the action and drama. Short of coming into your house in a burglar outfit in the middle of the night, poisoning all your houseplants, and punching your mom in the face, you do not get to have an opinion on how this woman, or any other writer or artist, spends their time.

Seo í mo mhóid shollúinte.” There is a sense that adults who read YA are reading down but I don’t think that’s true at all,” said Shannon in an interview with BBC. “It’s fine for all ages to read whatever they want and I think it’s important to always encourage reading.”

Lee, Stephan (9 August 2013). "BOOK REVIEW The Bone Season". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved 21 August 2013.Arcturus/ Warden. The romance that has been slowly building since book one. I don't even want to really go into detail about this in my review because it was such a joy to experience first hand that I don't want to spoil that for anyone else. If he hadn't already stolen my heart he would have surely stolen it ten times over in The Mask Falling. How gentle he is with Paige, how supportive. I'll never be over it. I am literally so angry at myself for the fact that I was so trapped in the story I believed he would betray them. I believed it for a hot minute before I figured out what happened. I have now realized the worst pain isn't a character death but believing your favorite betrayed everyone. He deserves the whole world and will always be my favorite. It's been a long time and process for me to feel even remotely ready to write this review because my emotions are still in such turmoil and excruciating pain after the ending of the book that I can barely go on. I'm sure I won't be able to make a lot of sense but I do want to give it a try and express all that this book meant to me, because it meant the stars and moon and so much more.

Hjelmgaard, Kim (19 August 2013). "Is Samantha Shannon the next J.K. Rowling?". USA Today . Retrieved 21 August 2013. DON'T INTERUPT ME WHILE I'M TEACHING YOU SOMETHING! BAD PUPIL! ~ every character in The Bone Season ever. As always I am also completely blown away by the continued growth and complexity of the world in these books and how far reaching it spreads between the different countries and different voyant syndicates. There is no other series I have read to date that has been able to achieve this as seamlessly as Shannon does in The Bone Season. I can't wait to see where the next book is going to take us after the events of this one. Warden: my sweet darling. I want a warden plz and thank you I just love how sweet and caring he is with her, and how he speaks like a dictionary ☺️ The year is 2059. For two centuries, the Republic of Scion has led an oppressive campaign against unnaturalness in Europe.I've been missing The Bone Season world lately, and when I saw this available free on Kindle I finally decided to read the novella to one of my favorite series! In the future, the government has decided to seek out clairvoyant people and hunt them down, using media propaganda to turn the masses against these people. As a result, clairvoyants who haven't sold their souls to the government must live in hiding, committing crimes to make it by. Paige is one such clairvoyant - a particularly rare one called a dreamwalker - and life is hard enough before she is abducted and taken far away, to live as a slave for a race of immortals called the Rephaim, who have orchestrated the entire war on voyants. Can Paige escape in time to save herself? The growing love story between Warden and Paige is extremely enjoyable, it is subtle and doesn't totally overshadow the actual storyline, and is well paced. You never think it unbelievable or too rushed, but just enjoy the ride. It isn't a big romantic story, which it may grow to be, but the very start of what could develop into an epic love. Samantha Shannon is incredible at introducing us to new parts of her world without it ever feeling forced or unnecessarily.
