About this deal

What: There are few Easter treats more iconic than the Lindt bunny. But this is no ordinary bunny. This one-kilo gold rabbit is pretty much life-sized and comes in its own box with a strap for carrying, presumably so you carry it with you and eat bits of it throughout the day. What: Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpiller - two iconic treats that are getting an Easter makeover from M&S this year. Treat the chocolate lover in your life to a giant Percy Pig or Colin face - the latter is white chocolate, and Percy is milk chocolate so they cover all bases.

What: Chocolate orange fans, this one's for you - Selfridges’ egg mixes single origin dark chocolate with zesty orange chocolate, and it looks pretty smart too. There are two other delicious flavours available too - a praline and a tasty malted blonde version. What: We love Chococo’s handmade chocolates, and the Dorset chocolatiers really outdo themselves at Easter with a huge range of great eggs. This milk chocolate number is made from their signature 47% Colombian milk chocolate, and 5% of every sale goes towards the Ocean Giants conservation programme.

Cadbury Creme Egg Easter Egg 195g

In addition to the egg itself, there's an array of lovingly crafted, dessert-inspired chocolates. Jess and Georgia both found it super satisfying to guess the flavours and there’s something there for everyone, from a gently spiced ‘carrot cake’ to a sweet and caramelly treacle tart. What: The title of this egg isn’t hyperbole, as it’s the size of an actual ostrich egg. The shell is made of milk chocolate that has been filled with crunchy cookie pieces and puffed rice, while the egg also comes with a tray of 20 chocs, meaning the whole thing amounts to over 1kg of chocolate. Just the right amount for one we think. Easter eggs are highly symbolic and are known as traditions particularly throughout Eastern Europe, Germany and England. As well as being gifted to children, as decorated (often painted) eggs and today more commonly as chocolate eggs, in the past, Easter eggs were also used as love gifs. Although eggs were not always associated with Christian traditions their evocative containment of a life in making provided for a possible association with Easter and the celebration of Christ’s death and subsequent resurrection (see Newall 1984).

Besides these fun faces, there are other offerings in the range for Easter, including a more traditional egg that is paired with some Percy sweets. While this was nice, our testers unanimously agreed that the characters are the better buy.Our Woman&Home food team - consisting of Food Director Jen Bedloe, Food Editor Jess Meyer, Deputy Food Editor Rose Fooks and Junior Food Writer Georgia Sparks - made up the main tasting panel for our big Easter egg taste test 2023. Susan Stewart (1993) in her analysis of narratives and objects refers to miniatures as being the ultimate demonstration of craftsmanship of the maker. In this sense the miniature could be said to act as the exemplary object of cultural supremacy. In the 19th century books were made miniature as an experiment in minuteness and skill, “it is the hand that has produced these volumes and the hand that has consumed them – they are an affront to reason and its principle sense – the eye” (Stewart 1993: 40ff). Indeed the level of precision and technicality that has gone into making it dazzles the viewer. We are fascinated not so much by the object itself but with the dexterity of the maker to manipulate and inscribe such detail (Gell 1998). The smallness of the doll is the essence of its uniqueness and superiority versus other dolls.
