All the variants seem to to leave a slightly oily feel on the skin - but this does disappear after about half and hour so I didn't find this to be too much of a problem.

It comes in two formulas, 25 per cent DEET content for day-long protection of up to 8 hours or 34 per cent DEET content for extended protection of up to 12 hours.

The product doesn't have any perceptible odour at all and the one application in the morning has been all I needed to ensure a virtually bite free day - highly unusual for me.

I preferred the lotion formulation as there's less waste - and less random dispersal of the DEET product onto fabrics or car paintwork both of which I gather are prone to damage by any DEET product. Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT) or very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the criteria in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation, or Ultrathon came already recommended, being endorsed by the UK military and Ray Mears, but as neither of them are spending much time in the west coast of Scotland these days, I think the home team should have a harder time being convinced.
