About this deal

The type of fruits can vary – some use tinned peaches, others use fresh mangos – but I always use berries.

As you look at delicious trifle recipes, you will see that many use flavored gelatin. Those recipes typically have you make gelatin, let it set and cut into cubes to layer. Use hand-held beaters, a stand-mixer or a Thermomix to beat the cream, vanilla and sugar until soft peaks form. Madeira cake- you can use any plain sweet (unfrosted) cake in trifle. I recommend using eitherMadeira cake, sponge cake, jam sponge roll or vanilla cake. This is the Australian trifle version most well known in our area and what we grew up with. The typical layers in a trifle are jelly, custard and cream – although there are many variations of this around the world. You’ll often come across this served up at Christmas or family celebrations, alongside plates of lamingtons or pavlova meringue. What You’ll Need Is it even Christmas without trifle? This is my tried and true recipe for adelicious summer berry trifle that’s made using store bought ingredients.Pour over another 1 cup of custard. Scatter the remaining fruit over the top. Cover the top with plastic wrap and leave in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours or even better, overnight.

Ideally, your trifle will have time in the fridge to soak – overnight is perfect. All the flavours will meld together and the cake will soften. It tastes just how you would expect – sweet, creamy and altogether delightful. HOW TO MAKE PERFECT TRIFLE Layering – Best tip here is to slow down and be careful. Take your time when layering the cream on the custard in particular. Have a light hand as you spread it around so you don’t end up pushing the cream into the custard.No-bake recipe - one of the best things about trifle is that it's a simple chilled dessert so there's no need to turn the oven on - making it a perfect option for entertaining during a hot Aussie summer! To help the cake soak up all the flavours, it’s drizzled with cranberry juice. Again, if you prefer another liquid, like apple juice or a liquor, you can use that. But cranberry juice works really well with all the berry flavours that are going on in my Trifle recipe. Cointreau (or fruit juice)- drizzling liquid over the cake helps to soften and flavour it. If you're preparing an adults-only dessert then use Cointreau. However, if like me, you're catering for both adults and children, simplysubstitute the Cointreau for a fruit juice (like cranberry, orange or apple juice).

Editor’s tip: Cut the dessert base into small pieces or squares. This will make assembly a breeze. See how it’s done in our Chocolate Strawberry Punch Bowl Trifle. Step 3: Add a creamy layer Raspberry, Chocolate & Meringue Ice Cream Cake - whip up this ice-cream cake ahead of time and have a refreshing dessert ready when you need it! Note: Please scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method. Step 1 - Prepare The Jelly Cointreau (or fruit juice) - drizzling liquid over the cake helps to soften and flavour it. If you're preparing an adults-only dessert then use Cointreau. However, if like me, you're catering for both adults and children, simply substitute the Cointreau for a fruit juice (like cranberry, orange or apple juice).

The traditional English trifle starts with a layer of ladyfingers or sponge cake soaked in liquor, fruit juice or even coffee. Seasonal fruit helps provide the right juiciness and sweetness to a trifle. Layer fresh fruit like strawberries, bananas and raspberries on top of the cream. Just make sure the fruit is cut into bite-sized pieces for easy serving. I have quite a few trifle recipes on this blog, but this English trifle recipe is one that my family has always loved. Recipes can vary from family to family, but the basic elements remain the same. A sponge cake soaked in spirits layered together with custard, whipped cream, and fruit. I believe one of my aunts used to add banana slices to hers as well!
