About this deal

For my LEICA and its jewel-like 39mm and 46mm filter-size lenses, the Retrospective 5 is too big. I prefer the smaller and lighter Mirrorless Mover bags for this. This bag will also hold the three f/2.8 zooms (16-35mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8) but your camera won’t fit in with the 70-200mm 2.8 attached (see Retrospective 20 for that).

Velcro note: I'm using the word velcro, in lower case, as a bastardization of a trademark, writing as a private individual, to save me from having to type "hook-and-loop fastener" each time instead. Velcro is a trademark of just one brand of this stuff, and I don't see Think Tank saying Velcro anywhere, so I suspect this bag doesn't use the Velcro brand. Whoever owns the Velcro trademark would have a cow if any organization used their trademark to represent anything which is not really Velcro, but I can write what I want as an individual. Real Velcro is grown in large fields in Hungary. The sides of the bag are featureless other than the anchor points for the metal D-rings to secure the shoulder strap and the carry handle. It became such a hit that in 2013 it also came in small and normal (Retrospective 5 and Retrospective 7), and as well as huge and gigantic (Retrospective 40 and Retrospective 50), as well as in Blue Slate for all sizes. Most manufacturers cut corners in one area or another. Quite often, the corner-cutting is noticeable, if not exactly objectionable. Rare few manage to design a tool or a product that feels every bit as or more expensive than it is. For example, the Fujifilm X-E2 that I own feels very high quality everywhere you touch, except the base where magnesium meets plastic body panels, and the thumb dial which is made from seemingly very cheap plastic. The Retrospective 7, from my experience, is one of those few products where the manufacturer did not end up cutting significant corners, or at least managed to hide it really well. During the several months of use, I did not find a single cheap feeling stitch – this is a properly made shoulder bag and everything you touch feels quite premium. More than that, the Seven managed to shrug off any abuse I might have thrown at it with ease and remains in pristine condition after almost daily use for two months. There are no noticeable traces of it being extensively used and I am certain it will serve for quite a few years. X-E2 + XF23mmF1.4 R @ 23mm, ISO 400, 1/50, f/1.4 To access your laptop, you have to go in through the top. This is different from many other camera bags out there. So if you’re sitting down at a cafe, know that you’ll have to undo the top and then undo the top zippered flap. For some of us, that might be very annoying as it means that the stuff in the top section isn’t secure. I enjoy this bag so much, I might just continue carrying it around, even when I am not hauling a camera with me! 5) Pricing and Where to Buy The shoulder pad is ultra-comfortable and feels great, particularly when carrying the bag around all day, and the strap is made of pretty strong cotton material which I think will last a lifetime.

Nothing worse than to discover that your keys have been rolling around in the bag with your lenses. And yes, the bag IS big. I am 5’4” and it is quite large on me. But I wanted a bag that could carry all of my stuff if I needed it to! For most occasions I prefer the Mindshift Gear as it offers better access and is more comfortable to wear. The Retrospective V2.0 series combines all our experience as photographers and product designers into a highly functional yet timeless camera bag. Think Tank Retrospective 7 is a messenger-style shoulder bag that has been designed to accommodate a variation of equipment, including a standard DSLR, two lenses, a 10” tablet or 13” laptop, and other accessories.

Part of the Retrospective Series, the Retrospective 7 is made from high-quality, durable materials and is water-resistant for ultimate protection. A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into each Retrospective bag. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder. As I type this, I am sitting in an airplane with my Think Tank Shoulder bag sitting under my seat holding everything I need safely and effectively for this trip! I am en route to New York City to shoot several engagement sessions. The Retrospective 4 V2.0 has all the necessary tech requirements in the interior including adjustable dividers. First of all, I want to say that your last sentence, “I might just continue carrying it around, even when I am not hauling a camera with me!”, really makes me laugh. Why a person carry a camera bag, when he/she doesn’t carry any camera :)). I may have a similar experience. I used my camera bag (a sling bag model) for carrying water bottles and a microphone when I went to a karaoke ;)And finally, here are the straps. It comes with waist and shoulder straps with a lot of available adjustment options. Build Quality On the left and right of the Retrospective 10 and Retrospective 7 we have plenty of room for any sort of lens, each easily swallowing a 70-200/2.8 and reversed hood, if you don't try to put a camera on top of it, too. (You probably can put a camera with another huge lens in the center, since the top flap velcros-down just fine, even when put more loosely over huge cameras on the Retrospective 10. I didn't try.) This is really important for me. I need to get to my camera fast and I need to be able to change lenses fast. Some bags (like the dreadful Incase DSLR Sling) need two hands to open and close, I can’t have that.
