About this deal

Articles to help you understand the overarching story and important covenants that tie the entire Bible together. When I saw this Bible on the net I was initially put off by the name of it because it sounded kind of cheesy. I knew nothing about the colour timeline that preceded it and so just assumed it was some kind of adapted children’s Bible (lol). But when I was researching the Didache Bible The Great Adventure Bible kept coming up in Google results as well. The Bible with authentically Catholic explanations of historical context, symbolism, and commonly challenged beliefs.

Twelve Timelinechartsprovide a visual overview of the Bible, including: important characters, Key Events, geography, major covenants, world rulers, and contemporary events in secular history. You will see a few photos with two bibles side by side, where I used a ‘large print Bible, and the Great Adventure Bible on the left. The text in the large print volume is a little bigger, but not much, considering this isn’t being sold as a large print edition, the big difference is the font in the comparative volume is a clearer font than the one used in this Bible… Also you will see that the font on the Bible on the right has footnotes and other references that are big enough for a person to read without a magnifier. I COMMEND them for using the RSV text, as that is my favorite Catholic Bible text. Not inclusive, as they hadn’t jumped on the liberal/dumbing down the Bible wagon yet. The principal annotator and associate editor of the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, Curtis Mitch, wrote this: "The new Great Adventure Catholic Bible is a thing of beauty. There's no other way to describe it.

A fascinating 24-lesson study that takes you on a journey through the entire Bible! Learn about the major people, places, and events of the Bible and discover the amazing story woven throughout all of Scripture using the unique color-coded Bible Timeline™Learning System. Encounter God in his Word! Matthew: The Ignatius Catholic Bible RSV (Revised Standard Version) in the Compact Zippered format is the best portable bible I've found. Here's why I highly recommend it over other portable/compact versions: This Bible is a part of a program by Ascension Presents. It's the Bible in a year program (forgive me if I'm wrong). Even if you don't use the use the program you still will get a lot of the bible. Excellent translation: I think this is the best Catholic-approved translation currently available. It is more accurate than the Douay-Rheims, more traditional- and poetic-sounding than the New American Bible (NAB), and free of the "inclusive language" that mars the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV). Although I still prefer the poetic richness of the Douay-Rheims and King James (KJV) versions, the RSV translation is more accurate (better scholarly standards applied to older, more authoritative manuscripts) and most people will find it much easier to read because it updates obsolete language (thee/ye --> you, etc.). At the same time, it remains much more poetic/traditional than the New American Bible, which has been "modernized" to the point that it sounds too casual to my ear. Also, I have nothing against inclusive language and gender fairness in contemporary society, but I don't believe politically-correct concerns are a sufficient reason to actively modify scripture and distort the real politics of the historical cultures recorded in the bible. There is a difference between translation and revision. I welcome expanded roles for women in the church, but I don't approve of altering Holy Scripture merely to assuage political concerns. Several scholars who worked on the NRSV felt the same way, but they were overruled and forced to adopt the inclusive language.

Articles to help you understand the overarching story and important covenants that tie the entire Bible together

There is a, ‘Bible Timeline’ reading plan’ that covers the main events of the Bible, but not its entirety. Most days appear to have 3-4 chapters, and that will take quite a bit of time considering many get carried away with prayer and meditation when reading the Scriptures. This is a way to get through the majority of the Bible, and to understand what it is trying to teach us. Contributors to this Catholic Bible include Jeff Cavins, Mary Healy, Andrew Swafford, Peter Williamson, and Fr. Sebastian Carnazzo.
