About this deal

Even though there are a lot of differences, I felt like this book is a new version of the Famous Five. Yes, there are three characters in the book, not five (and no Timmy the dog). No, there isn't a private island, they don't have picnics with ginger beer (though there is a camping picnic) and in The Good Turn, it's about three neighbours who want to do good deeds in their neighbourhood, rather than cousins who enjoy spending the school holidays together at Kirrin Cottage.

And then delivering something people aren't necessarily expecting. And horror is really similar. And I really like those similarities. From the award-winning author of High Rise Mystery. 'Brilliant; a joy to the very end' Katherine Rundell. ALISHEA: No, I definitely wouldn't present Book Club again. I only did that last time because you were on Strictly, remember? So begins a series of adventures, small ones at first but then after seeing lights on in the empty factory building Josie wants to explore a bit more and everything becomes a lot more serious.

The crime scene shows marmalade handprints on the door and fibres from a blue duffle coat found at the scene. But who has stolen the painting, Sharna, do you know? In the North West, children were passionate about the climate crisis, as shortlisted entries from Manchester had a strong focus on how the crisis will impact people and animals. In Wales, the climate crisis seems to be front and centre of children’s minds, as the shortlisted entries focused on deforestation, global warming, and how it is affecting animals and other endangered species. A passion for change For 9+ readers, this gripping, thoughtful update to the Blytonesque "secret society" genre engages squarely with racism and social injustice.' Guardian I love it! Josie, Margot and Wesley are so real to me after reading it. Sharna really knows how to properly tell stories with and for young people. I want to be in the Copseys! Elle McNicoll, author of A Kind of SparkUm, and Danger_Mouse_Iceberg has reviewed "A Pinch of Magic" by Michelle Harrison using the words "Sisters, cursed, trapped, island, and trouble." That sounds very mysterious. That's kind of like on the right lines for "The Good Turn" as well, mystery book. Looking for more challenging tasks, Josie enlists her friends Wesley and Margot into her very own Scout troop, the Copseys, named after the street they all live on. Together they start their quest for their camping badge by sleeping out near to the abandoned factory behind their houses. ALISHEA: Last month, we set you a new emoji challenge to make a story using just three emojis. And they were a mug, a magic wand, and a tree. So let's have a read of some of my favourites. I really enjoyed that this book wasn't completely tied up with a neat ribbon at the end, that the bow is slightly wonky, ands that just how it is sometimes. Author Anna Kemp introduces The Hollow Hills, the sequel to her dark magical tale, Into Goblyn Wood.

leading to the turnip podium where it was on display. But the CCTV cameras didn't spot anyone. Perhaps they'd made themselves invisible. The only other clue we have is that the culprit was followed by small little angry fellows when questioned. And they said his name was Gollum. I'd love to see this book continued as a series, and I'm sure a lot of younger readers, as well as older ones, can learn a lot from reading it. This story reads with a rare freshness and energy. The voices and the setting are convincing and vivid... an intriguing mystery - The TimesALISHEA: That's brilliant. So Josephine was inspired by Josephine. But who were you inspired by when you were younger? There's a selection of hand-knitted jumpers as well with the letter R on them. The floor and the pillow also are matted with ginger hairs. Who has committed this crime? The dialogue within the story is beautifully composed, really showing the feelings of the characters as they explore their mysterious find in the abandoned factory. With the chapters being nice and short, the book lends itself really well to whole class reading activities; my group of children enjoyed the story and really felt for the characters as their stories unfolded. Um, and Terribly Terrific Turtle says, once upon a time, a tree decided to dance. He loved to dance, sing, and boogie. But his dream didn't come true until a porcelain mug came flying into his trunk. It transported him into another dimension where everyone had a magic wand. From that point on, as they investigate and also try to earn badges for their activities, and tensions mount at home, things start to spiral desperately out of control for the Copseys.
