About this deal

The saddle weighs a reasonable 190g, which is quite competitive compared with similar styles of short saddles that also have an open channel, at similar price points. The insoles are around 2.5mm thin, 88g light (for an uncut pair), and are quite flexible. They offer support from the heel to the arch, while allowing the foot to rotate quite freely as you pedal. The very first time I got on the Specialized 3D printed saddle, I was in love. I wasn't necessarily in love with the shape but using 3D printing for the padding absolutely changes what is possible. The ability to vary the structure of the matrix very precisely allows a brand to tune softness vs stiffness in a way that's impossible with traditional foam. What you get, at least from Specialized, is a saddle that's much softer than you'd expect from a serious performance saddle. Overall, if you are looking for a short-nosed saddle with an open channel, this particular Aspide is worth trying, if you can. The open central channel had a noticeable effect on comfort – on shorter rides at least – and I found myself staying in the saddle more than usual. The abrupt shape and padding around the open channel might be an issue, though, and could impact overall comfort, especially as the miles mount up. Verdict I’d probably prefer a 100% recyclable saddle, made with less embodied energy, and less of a harmful impact on the environment for a 100g weight penalty…

But Selle Italia suggests many more GreenTech saddles are in development. They’re cheaper & easier to make, and could theoretically work for any saddle shape in the Selle Italia portfolio. Fingers crossed for more high-performance, low-cost & eco-friendly saddles made in Italy soon! The regularly padded Aspide Short Racing and Shortfit 2.0 Racing road saddles with ti rails get a shiny Iridescent Gold option. Superlight full carbon fiber rails with oval section (9,8 mm x 7 mm) with PATENTED DNA (Dynamic Node Action) technology which prevents twisting and keeps the front of the saddle narrow for great pedalling freedom. It makes the Carbon fiber rails even stiffer and, give to the central geometry a longer section to ensure more extensive saddle adjustment. This Rails is used on Superleggera and Carbon FX saddles. An adaptor might be required with some seat posts.

A saddle is a personal preference and no saddle will be perfect for everyone. That doesn't change when talking about a 3D printed saddle. The only difference there is that 3D printing allows for much more precise tuning of the padding. A great saddle company can exploit this new tool to do what they've always done before just with more precision.helping you conquer the steepest of climbs and fastest descents. I did the fit process for my size 43 feet, and came out with an L2 insole, indicating a slightly longer than average heel:arch and a middle of the road Medium arch.Ultimately, saddle comfort is extremely personal, and what might not suit me might be perfect for you. George tested the slightly cheaper Aspide Shortfit Dynamic Saddle model and found it really comfortable. For me, despite having used many different short-nosed and open designs before, this is the first time I've had an issue with fit and comfort. And both Italian saddle brands have adapted their unique 3D-printed padding layouts to fit over the existing carbon shells of their existing top-tier saddles, while completely retaining the fit & feel of their long-running and popular saddles. The saddle feature “progressive” padding support that seamlessly transitions across four main support zones – from stiffer structure under the sit bones to progressive absorption and Xsilite rails provide strength and ensure comfort on every pedal stroke. This high-tech What that really means is that you need to start by forgetting about the 3D print technology. If you are a small person that prefers a narrow saddle then the Selle San Marco Shortfit 2.0 3D Racing saddle might be a good fit. You'll also need to be someone who prefers a little bit of a wave to help keep you in place while seated but like to stand with enough regularity that you appreciate a saddle that makes it easy. If that sounds good then take a look at the Selle San Marco Shortfit 2.0 and if you've got the extra money, the 3D printed version is softer without having to worry about chafing.
