Pansexual and omnisexual Multisexual is a broad term that encompasses all sexual orientations in which people are attracted to more than one gender. Human sexuality is a really complicated, personal topic. There are so many different ways to identify, and the only person who can tell us how we feel is ourselves. When we suggest that everyone is at least a little bit attracted to more than one gender, we’re taking away people’s freedom to express who they truly like. Also, most bisexual people have put a great deal of thought into understanding their sexual orientation and it’s not fair to minimize their experience by saying that “everyone” is probably bi. It is also always important to speak about who the individual is and is not out to in their life so no one is “outed.” For many transgender and non-binary people, they feel more comfortable and safe being in a relationship with someone who is of transgender and/or non-binary experience, leading to greater relationship intimacy and comfort. When I came across the term ‘skoliosexual’ last year, I was pretty excited. As someone who is predominantly attracted to people who are in some way gender non-conforming, it felt like for the first time in my queer little life that there was a label that came close to fitting me. However, skoliosexual is a somewhat problematic identity and not necessarily one that everyone supports cisgender people using (2022 UPDATE: I no longer identify as a woman but as genderqueer). So, what is skoliosexuality, what issues surround it and is it really a suitable sexual identity for me?

Due to its history as a reclaimed slur and use in political movements, queer still holds political significance. Skoliosexuality is also spelled as scoliosexuality. It refers to an attraction to people who are nonbinary or transgender. Transgender people are those that identify with a different gender from that which they were assigned at birth.
