About this deal

There are three engines in the Kangoo line up as of early 2023, with a choice of two diesels and one petrol. Strictly speaking it is just the one diesel engine, but in a choice of two different power outputs. Both are 1.5-litre engines, with a choice of 95hp and 115hp. The former is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox while, unusually, the latter is only offered with a seven-speed automatic. Renault’s standard warranties are comparatively poor compared to the rest of the industry, with only three years and 100,000-miles of cover included. The petrol is less economical on paper, with an official rating of 41.5mpg. Renault Kangoo servicing Motrio is a brand of automotive spare parts launched by Renault in 1998, covering both Renault/Dacia vehicles and other brands. The objective of Motrio is to propose an alternative range to Renault genuine parts. Motrio became also a multi brand network of repairers in 2003. As mentioned above, the new Kangoo is now wide enough in the rear to accept a Euro pallet sideways – and this is with space to spare for ply-cladding round the wheel arches.

The Kangoo E-Tech is the new name for what used to be called the Kangoo ZE, and it's the electric model in the line-up. This comes with a 118bhp electric motor and direct drive to the front wheels, and there's a healthy 245Nm of torque on offer, too. This electric motor is joined by a 44kWh battery - up from a maximum of 33kWh for the old Kangoo ZE - which gives the van an official WLTP range of 186 miles.

A set of wheel trims are a great mod to start out with. They’re cheap, easy to fit and look great. In fact, they’re one of our most popular car accessories. Why invest in alloy wheels and trims? Storage is also good in the Kangoo. There's an overhead shelf, a lidded cubby above the dials, a dashtop tray and a decent glovebox, while the door bins are also a good size. If it had some of the innovative storage systems that are offered in the left-hand-drive markets then we might well be looking at a new class leader as the rest of the fundamentals are equal to anything else. It drives excellently, has a wide range of engine choices, has a payload that is almost the match of the best in class and it has a fantastic electric version. It gets a smart new cabin, too, with plenty of details that wouldn’t look out of place in some of Renault’s car range, although admittedly the lower end ones given the hard, durable nature of the plastics.

Renault hasn’t given full dimensions details for the longer Kangoo Maxi version, but has said it has a loading length of up to 3,548mm. It will come in two sizes. The small model – described as the standard van – will offer between 3.3 and 3.9 cubic metres of storage space; the longer version has 4.2-4.9 cubic metres of load volume, and will probably be called the Kangoo Maxi (though this hasn’t been announced, and Renault is referring to it as the Kangoo long). Autonomous emergency braking – detects pedestrians and cyclists in the day or night up to 50mph; detects vehicles (including those approaching a junction) up to 105mph The rear doors are split asymmetrically, while the standard side door has an impressive 864mm opening width. What payload does the Kangoo offer?Visually the new Kangoo is a huge step forward from the previous one, with a neat front end that is enhanced by the C-shaped headlights and generous application of shiny bits on some versions.

The Renault Kangoo’s cabin has gone the way that every small van has of late, by taking big influence from the passenger car world. Granted it is more in line with the sort of budget models that appear on smaller superminis than the high-end larger equivalents. There are just the two trims in the Renault Kangoo range. The more basic looking Start and the more generously fitted out Advance. Equipment highlights are below. The Kangoo is alo 0.3-0.5 cubic metres bigger inside than the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo Cargo. At a cruise, the Kangoo E-Tech is quiet and refined, with minimal wind and tyre noise. The ride is also pretty good for a van, no doubt helped by the weight of the battery ironing out the chassis somewhat. What there isn’t, sadly, is many of the clever features from the left-hand drive version of the Kangoo. That is available with a large glovebox, a system that removes the B-pillar to create a huge side loading space and a hinged bulkhead and a folding front passenger seat that gives you a large and long loadbay. Of course, the Kangoo also offers an all-electric version, and we deal with this separately in its own review. What are the Renault Kangoo’s rivals?

This group includes the Citroen Berlingo, Fiat Doblo, Peugeot Partner, Toyota Proace City and Vauxhall Combo. All five of these are much of a muchness, but it is the Proace City that stands out over the rest on account of its 10-year warranty to the extent that it is our small van of the year. Choose the long-wheelbase model, and there's a 4.2 cubic metre cargo capacity, which is more than you get in a long-wheelbase Berlingo by nearly half a cubic metre. The length of the cargo area here is 2,230mm, while most other measurements are the same as the standard van's. The rear sill is slightly lower at 613mm, while the maximum cargo height is 1,248mm. There are two seats for the standard Kangoo, while the higher-spec model adds a twin passenger seat and features different upholstery with a subtle yellow stripe in the fabric. The three-seat layout is a little cramped for two passengers, but that's a criticism that can be levelled at any small van fitted with a twin passenger seat.Renault is an iconic French manufacturer and has had considerable success over the years with a range of models that have been popular across the world. In 1972 Renault Sport was established and has become renowned for performance enthusiasts. Since then, Renault's adrenaline fuelled nature experienced its highlight in 1992 where they commenced a winning streak in the F1 leading to 6 consecutive championship titles. Renault continue to offer customers the perfect balance between style and practicality and have grown their model range to suit the needs of a variety of customer lifestyles and needs. Genuine Renault Wheels & Trims The option of a petrol engine is a rarity in the van sector as a whole. It is a 100hp 1.3-litre engine that is also paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. A new set of wheel trims are a good investment if your standard hubcaps are broken or damaged. As well as looking good, they can improve your car’s resale value too. Tips on buying new hubcaps
