Primarily the work of Satoru Okada and Gunpei Yokoi, the console was designed to a specific price point and goal; to be a practical portable device. Rival companies got carried away with the technical possibilities and contemporary handheld consoles with far superior specs fell by the wayside as Game Boy marched on. Gunpei Yokoi’s design philosophy – using proven, inexpensive components in new and interesting ways – continued through Nintendo's handheld line and carried over to its home consoles with Wii. The Switch itself, and novel experiments such as Labo VR, show that this approach continues to keep the Kyoto company in rude health.

The Gameboy had a golden painted shell with the words “Golden Sun” on the top of the screen and character sprites below. The only image of this Gameboy Advance SP to be seen is in fact the promotional image for the Golden Sun GBA that was a competition within the CoroCoro magazine from Japan. But it is a good game; the graphics are nicely done; the music sets the right "mysterious" mood and the "action" is obviously way better than in most 2D games (Mortal Kombat, you know). It's just that it is sort of a "hard sell", because it uses Mortal Kombat Gameboy's combat system in an action adventure, which means that if you are not familiar with fighting games's control systems, it can seem almost impossible to get past the first screen. It turns out the screen is OK after all - welllll, - it is not as bright as the 101 , but it is not a deal breaker: it is watchable. Subsequently we have found a local games shop selling the old games for a fiver each - still lots of choice out there.In my opinion Tetris on Game Boy is still the best version of the game. It's a very basic version, but every time I start the original Game Boy and hear that classic Tetris tune, I know I'm in for a good time. 10/10 in my book.
