If you wield a big weapon and want to deal massive damage, this is your go-to. It’s less vital to you than a fighter, however, since you have Divine Smite for burst damage. Most paladins would generally rather hit so you can activate your smites than gamble on a bit of extra damage—but since the Oath of Vengeance has a variety of damaging spells to cast rather than smiting, Great Weapon Master can make it easier to deal damage without spending your limited resources.False Friend: The setup for the story. All the people Kaito believed were his companions were just playing him, from the very beginning. Once they got him to kill the Demon Lord, and save their sorry hides, they not only framed him for their own crimes but hunted him down like an animal until they eventually managed to stab him to death, happily calling him "evil" for the Crime of Self-Defense.

Without giving too many direct spoilers, many of the major beats in The Path of Vengeance will be very familiar to High Republic fans. Scott begins the novel within the chaotic throws of The Battle of Jedha to add to the story framework originally constructed within George Mann’s audio original, The Battle of Jedha, and Scott’s own comic, The High Republic. As the story goes on, a similar story technique is used to explore events first illustrated in Lydia Kang’s adult novel Cataclysm as characters that are just outside the focus of Kang’s story step into the light within Scott’s. Marda is the true star of Path of Vengeance— she’s also the key figure on the cover, with Jedi Oliviah Zeveron and Matty behind her. Over the course of phase two, Marda evolved from an innocent and naive girl into a young woman who takes what she wants and refuses to bow to anyone. Yana, on the other hand, begins the novel in a state of disillusionment after her own loss at the end of her previous chapter. Although most of her life has been devoted to the Path and its members, her vision has become clearer in the time since the death of her dearest love. Not only does she see The Mother for who she truly is, but her own destiny begins to stray further and further from everyone she’s ever known. Path of Vengeance covers the events of The Battle of Jedha and Cataclysm from Marda’s perspective. This is also where her character evolves into the being that will indirectly change the future of the galaxy. The Force will be freeMinnalis's "friend", Lucia, revealed Minnalis's race to her fellow villagers because she wanted to keep Minnalis away from Keryll. She indulged in similar behaviour when they went to school, threatening other girls away. Seeing as Minnalis ultimately tortures Keryll to death for Revenge by Proxy, she honestly needn't have bothered. While Path of Vengeance does toe this line from time to time with crews, cultists, and Jedi ( oh my!), the main cast of the novel shines beyond any small confusions as Scott writes them with more intrigue and complexity than ever before. Marda and Yana Ro may have been initially introduced in last year’s Path of Deceit, but this novel takes their respective journeys and shows us their full potential as leads. Simultaneous Arcs: The first act overlaps with The Battle of Jedha and the last few issues of The High Republic (2022). Post-Jedha, Acts 2 and 3 overlap with The Nameless Terror (which takes place after the Path's Planet X expedition and follows the missing Path ship), Quest for Planet X, Cataclysm, and The Edge of Balance: Precedent, the latter three of which eventually lead into the Battle of Dalna from different perspectives.

That eternal fight of Jedi vs Sith is always entertaining but sometimes it’s good to have a different type of antagonist. The Path of the Open Hand might not wield the Force but The Mother has learned to weaponize an idea and the people that believe in it. The paladin also gains access to spells at 2nd level, drawing from their class’s unique spell list. While your spell selection is more limited and you gain access to more powerful spells more slowly than “full caster” classes, you balance it out with your robust combat arsenal. Take this time before you gain your subclass at 3rd level to feel out what your role in the party is. That way, when you do gain your subclass (as well as the host of permanently prepared Oath Spells that come with it), you’ll know what spells your party needs you to have access to on a regular basis. Our Souls Are Different: Combined with Our Demons Are Different and Our Angels Are Different. All the "spirits" in the story, regardless of origin, are just large, sentient masses of mana, and can be killed with the right tools and methods.Dark Fantasy: The fantasy world in this setting fits in with some of its dark aspects with all races being supremacists to each other and the fantasy hero being betrayed and turning revenge. It is saying something that the closest person who is truly heroic is the supposed demon lord. Cavan Scott writes Path of Vengeance. It is available in audio, physical, and digital formats. Earlier copies were sold at Star Wars Celebration 2023. It was released for the rest of the world on May 2nd while the audiobook wasn’t out until June 6th.
