About this deal

In this story, Selena meets her old college sweetheart Mona who she dumped for another girl. Mona comes to Selena's shop and asks for ingredients for a love spell.

Like most readers, I got this book for "Interlude in Death," an enjoyable off-planet novella in the Dallas/Roarke compendium. This had so much potential! Space! I mean, just look at Total Recall to see all the fun ways to do murder off-world! But it was just ok, falling into the common novella hole of introducing things and not exploring them. Rest of the stories were ok to less-than-ok. Graham Swift's writing style is wonderful and immediate, and very matter of fact, the characters are very believable. In "The Egyptian Cat" the author showcases her sense of humour, because she has given new names to a few well-known Lovecraftian tales. These clever names will amuse everybody who has ever read H.P. Lovecraft's stories. This story also contains intriguing references to Egyptian mythology, because the author writes about Servants of Set.

I liked Susan Krinards Kinsmen, though I've read some of her other works in anthologies, i have yet to read an actual novel of hers. Again, 4 stars on it's own and would read more by this author. While the end strongly makes up for it, the middle chunk of this book is pretty typical for a middle-grade story, making it less compelling for adult readers until the last third.

Set in 1982 just as a Task Force is sailing to the South Atlantic to repel the Argentinian invasion of the Falkland Islands, Out of this World is a family drama that features most of Britain's major conflicts of the 20th century and centres around two main characters; Harry Beech, a former war photographer, and his estranged daughter, Sophie. Harry served in the RAF during WWII whilst his father won a Victoria Cross in WWI and was the owner of a successful armaments factory until he is killed in a terrorist bomb blast. The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the first moon landing also make an appearance. I like the author's way of writing about how the death of the nobleman is investigated, because it involves sorcery. Magic Like Heat Across My Skin: Probably not fair to evaluate this as I haven't read any Anita Blake books and now...might not. I got the gist of the plot, and was into the concept of the Anita-vampire-werewolf triad, but Anita herself was so "I only just realized how awful I was being" that I just can't.Each strand follows a different set of sci-fi characters and aliens as they explore and colonise distant planets. A story about a professional editor, Erica, who receives a box which contains a statue of a cat. Soon she meets Rashida who tells her an incredible story about the statue.

They find themselves transported to another world and almost run over by a pair of transparent (literally) people who seemingly don’t welcome their presence and encourage them to leave through another shimmering portal. Thus, their adventure begins, jumping through portals in search of their parents, and finding themselves in different worlds populated with strange and often dangerous creatures.

I received Out of This World for review and didn’t actually realize it was a middle-grade novel before starting it. It became fairly obvious as I read through, but it’s definitely one of those books that you have to keep pushing through to the end because it all makes much more sense and reaches a whole new level of awesome!

Matthew finds a half drowned woman, he rescues her and takes her home. She says her name is Puabi and that she is a Sumerian queen. Puabi looks exactly like Matthew's dead wife. I didn't like this story as well as I liked the first two novellas. I really wish Richards had brought all his awesome creativity into the book earlier. While the worlds he comes up with are interesting, the adventures play out like those weekly TV shows and are just a little too predictable, even though this gets explained later. Just push through! It’s worth it! This story has amusing references to H.P. Lovecraft that will delight those who enjoy Lovecraftian stories. New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton —with a new Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter tale: "Magic Like Heat Across My Skin." It's been six months since vampire hunter Anita Blake has seen the two men in her life. Now a kidnapping brings them together--closer than a woman, a vampire, and a werewolf have ever been before... In this story, Maeve wakes up at the inn and finds out that her cousin, Raven, is in Princess Miaqi's body.

I liked J.D. Robbs Interlude in Death, my first foray into the world of eve dallas. On it's own, 4 stars, would happily read more of this series. In 1972, Robert Beech, First World War veteran and prominent figure in the arms industry, is killed by a car bomb. The event cuts short the career of his son Harry, a news photographer, and comes close to destroying his granddaughter Sophie. Ten years later, Harry, now working in aerial photography, and Sophie, visiting an analyst in New York, remain scarred and divided by the event. Around their broken relationship and Harry’s memories of his truncated career and his father, the novel builds a story that is acutely private yet sweepingly public, at the heart of which lies Harry’s lifelong dedication of the camera. The chapter formula became redundant. Except for the last part of the story, it seemed that the end of every chapter introduced a new (apparently) life-changing crisis for Zachary and Jenna. They would solve that problem in the beginning/middle of the next chapter. What annoyed me was that Zachary and Jenna treated each problem in the beginning as an obstacle they could never overcome. Introducing Drama Prince Zach and Drama Princess Jenna. The formula goes: problem, [next chapter] drama moment (hopelessness), revelation, solution (happiness), problem [next chapter]. Over and over again, in every new planet/world they went to, this endless cycle continued to bore me.
