Did Cain physically depart from his family and home? Yes. The Bible makes this clear. But where did he go? Thankfully, Genesis chapter four provides a few clues that might direct our search for a potential physical location of his wandering. For one thing, the land where Cain settled was said to be located “ east of Eden” ( Genesis 4:16). However, since we don’t know exactly where the Garden of Eden was located, perhaps by God’s design ( Genesis 3:23-24), it’s difficult to know where Cain set off from or how far east he traveled. Unfortunately, a proclivity to wander and pursue sin is a curse all have inherited. As the apostle Paul writes, “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” ( Romans 8:23) and “just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all mankind, because all sinned.” ( Romans 5:12) By sinning, we too enter our own land of Nod, and find ourselves separated from the peace and presence of God. Revelations of the Dark Mother depicted the story of the first vampires from the point of view of Lilith, Adam's first wife. The book kept me entertained, thinking hard, appalled, and fascinated. In many ways it shouldn't matter. Critics are often aimed at the 'death of the author' school of criticism. But to me it mattered, and made the book, which was already personal, even more so.

Tanya and Paul’s touching is coarse, brutal, and primitive, setting the stage for the rest of the novel. Several other Vampire: The Masquerade books contained passages of the Book of Nod. These often conflicted with each other and Storytellers were encouraged to add to the chaos, simulating the problems the Noddist scholars must face. Nod is a novel that only comes around every five to ten years. It takes that long for a writer to create a piece of fiction that actually has something to say and is unique. Nod is that book. It tells the tale of Paul who finds himself an unlikely prophet after his manuscript on the etymology of words becomes a surrogate bible to a city who cannot sleep.Yet the most endearing element comes from the death of a long term relationship between Paul (one of the few Sleepers - people who are able to maintain nightly sleep) and his is partner Tanya (one of the many Awakened, those in a perpetual state of insomnia). Their close bond pre the end of the world balances on the edge of ending before falling over the void into nothingness. Add cult-like theorists and an easy manipulation of will, and Tanya and Paul's life together was going to always take a turn for the worse.
