About this deal

To mount it to your camera or rig, the top and bottom of the unit has the ARRI 2-pin 3/8″ accessory mounts so you can buy the right connector to stop the unit twisting. Bring live video from your smartphone, remote computer, or friends directly into OBS or other studio software.

On the surface, you would think that there is little difference, and when it comes to core quality, there is very little difference. However, with the Atomos Ninja V, you have a few more file options.

ATOMOS NINJA V AUDIO

A group room can handle up to around 30 guests, depending on numerous factors, including CPU and available bandwidth of all guests in the room. To achieve more than around 7-guests though, you will likely want to disable video sharing between guests. Using &broadcast, &roombitrate=0 or &novideo are options there. Interlaced signals are now supported. An automatic pulldown conversion gets applied to them, which then gets conformed to the Project Rate. Another option here is the side by side preview, so you can see exactly how the LUT effects the shot, all very clever. With frame-accurate timecode embedded directly into each recording you can accurately edit together multiple video and audio sources effortlessly using automated functions in all popular editing software. SSD STORAGE Big storage. Mini proportions

For this test, I used a selection of LUTs from BounceColour. Once loaded into the Ninja V, you can then select them for the monitor, and the effect is then applied to the footage. The Ninja V comes has the AtomOS operating system which is easy to get to grips with. The five-inch touchscreen is responsive and it’s easy to navigate the settings, of which there are many options. There are some obvious icons to help you get to the features you want. The state of the scenes, such as which videos are active in a scene, are lost when the director resets the control-room or the scene. The unique AtomHDR engine processes the incoming Log/RAW/HDR signals from your camera or device and displays in all its HDR glory on the Ninja V screen. There are matching profiles for a plethora of cameras, with more added as they emerge. Prefer to work is Rec.709? The Ninja V has you covered with the ability to load custom LUTs to match your workflow. There are a few reasons that the Atomos Ninja V has become such a must-have accessory amongst the film making community. Features are obvious, but it’s the build and handling that makes this both easy to use and useful in the film making process. With a super bright 5” HDR display the Ninja V gives you increased dynamic range on-screen. Add to this the flexibility to record up to 4Kp60 over HDMI 2.0 or SDI* in a range of codecs including Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW and Avid DNxHR. With Ninja V you have complete flexibility to capture every detail perfectly during filming and have maximum latitude in post. In the world of video recording monitors, there are surprisingly few options that sit securely at the top of most filmmakers and industry professionals’ lists.

You can use this control room to record isolated video or audio streams, but it is an experimental feature still. By taking advantage of the long-range RF transmission patented by Timecode Systems, AtomX SYNC can be used alone or in combination with AtomX SYNC, UltraSync ONE and UltraSync BLUE to synchronise apps and hardware devices. Those features include the monitor; it’s bigger and brighter with a toolset that will help you ensure exposure and focus are right. For more information on the new features, improvements and known limitations, refer to the release notes for AtomOS 10.84.00. Adding &showonly=SOME_OBS_VIRTUALCAM to the guest invite links allows for only a single video to be seen by the guests; this can be output of the OBS Virtual Camera for example

DSLR and Mirrorless cameras may well be the popular choice for shooting video, but, there’s no getting away from the fact that they were originally designed to shoot stills. You can also get rid of all the menu items apart from timecode and audio meters while shooting so you can concentrate on the composition. Whether you’re shooting HDR or regular SDR, the Ninja V has been one of the best options for professionals and prosumers alike with its support for up to 30 different cameras with its ProRes RAW (which itself is just one of the existing codecs offered with the Ninja V).But what you might not realise about Ninja is that this brand is also connected to the impressive Shark vacuum brand - as both of them operate under the SharkNinja company. With an impressive tech team behind it, it’s no wonder that Ninja is celebrated for its high-quality air fryers. Each feature provides a fresh way to use the NINJA V/V+ to perfect each shot or explore new ways to make films. When you get your hands on one of these devices, the biggest challenge will be deciding which of the options you’ll explore first.
