About this deal

Although many of these specifications look similar to the Nikon Z6 II, despite the Zf being three years newer, there are some major reasons to get the Zf instead.

If you're shooting landscapes and portraits, you don't need the frames-per-second, so any of Nikon's other cameras work just as well — and have even more resolution, usually for less money. I wouldn't use the D500 for weddings; I don't get flash exposure as consistent as I prefer; use a full-frame camera like the D750 instead for the same price. Personally, I wouldn’t get any of these, especially the more expensive ones (a cheaper one can make a good gift for a kid’s first “real” camera). In terms of image quality, these camera sensors are only a hair larger than that of the iPhone X. Not terrible, but you won’t get world-class image quality with them – unlike the DSLRs and mirrorless cameras above. Perhaps surprisingly, the D500 is also larger and heavier than both the D610 and D750 FX bodies. You won’t be buying this one to save space and weight. It’s not until you get to the second largest camera in the Nikon DSLR range, the D810, that you have something a little larger than the D500. The D810’s grip is fatter than, but not as deep as, the D500’s grip. Both are very good but I have a preference for the D810’s shape.Multi-CAM 20K autofocus module with 153 sensors in normal mode with 99 cross-type sensors. Of these points, 15 will work with any lens/teleconverter combination with a maximum aperture of f/8 or larger. The biggest liability is autofocus. The D610 has Nikon’s old 39-point focusing system (same as the entry-level D5600).

The higher resolution of the D850 means you can crop more tightly on an animal and still maintain a large enough image size to print at high quality. This can be useful when you don't have a long lens attached to your camera and need to crop in to get a tight shot of an animal from short range. As I see it below, every ISO up to and including ISO 51,200 looks great. Only at ISO 102,400 and above do the images start to suffer. There are three very obvious factors that differentiate the D5 from the D500: sensor size, camera size and price. But looking past those, the two are remarkably alike. Notice how many of the features in the table above are common to both. It is not a comprehensive list by any means, but does pretty well illustrate the shared raison d’être of these two cameras. In recent years it has been a very frustrating fact that, as a Nikon user, the only way to get a really high speed camera was to get a D4 or D4s. There has been no affordable alternative since the D300/D300s until now. Reddish Egret (white morph) – Nikon D500, 600mm f/4, ISO 900 1/3200s f/5.6 Nikon D500 vs Mirrorless Competition It has a fairly small sensor compared to a full frame system, which means it won't perform like these larger sensors in low-light conditions. The Nikon D500 has a max ISO of 51,200, but you won't want to go that high to save your image quality. This means you get more flexibility when shooting in areas where light is limited, such as forested areas or during dusk, and produce images with far less noise, especially at higher ISOs. It took the company years to get here, but in 2018 Nikon finally released a series of full-frame mirrorless cameras to compete with the likes of Sony. However, the Z6 has been superseded by the Nikon Z6 II, and Nikon is no longer selling it new as of 2023 in most markets.
