About this deal

The stories in One More Year take place during the events of the first MegaHex collection, so there are no big surprises regarding plot points. You know what's going to happen. The question then becomes, "How can this have gone on for so long?" I won't spoil a goddamn thing for you, because all of it is absolutely worth reading, but seeing the abuse Owl suffers at the hands of his friends, you have to wonder why, at each turn, he hasn't yet left. And the book knows you'll ask, because Owl, in time, asks himself the same question. Once at his birthday he was taken to WW's house and was beaten and raped by him, Megg and Mogg. [11] They later try to make it up to him by buying him an ounce of weed and the video game Sword of Battle III. [12] Jerkass: Megg tends to be a mean and boorish person to everyone around her even when she's stoned and in a relatively "good" mood. Ignored Epiphany: He's aware on some level that he isn't happy and is making his loved ones unhappy, but he's unwilling to change his ways.

At the end of Megahex, Owl cites the way he's been treated as the reason he's moving out. When Mogg apologizes, the word "sorry" is in quotes, implying he doesn't feel remorse for the many bad things he's done to him. Life Zone (2013), Space Face Books, ISBN 978-0983800545 (all stories in Life Zone are republished in One More Year) I turned 31 last December, four days before Christmas. I spent it in a hot tub, drinking champagne, gazing out across the ocean. I was born in Tasmania. Tasmania is a small island/sovereign state at the bottom of Australia. It is densely haunted by convicts' ghosts -- highest rate of ghosts per square kilometer in the world. I was born in Launceston, the second largest population center in Tasmania. A real shit hole. Highest crime rate per capita in Australia. I detest it. Toxic Friend Influence: Mike of all people ends up being this in Bad Gateway when he pressures Werewolf Jones into falling off the wagon after he'd been sober for over a month.Addled Addict: His erratic behavior can be attributed to his abuse of powerful narcotics. This frequently leads to trouble for him and his friends. A couple strips note "Father Knows Best," where he reveals he's on methadone, and "Drone," where he mentions having Valium, Tramadol, and Suboxone on-hand imply he routinely uses the harder opioids. WW and Megg have had a band together called Horse Mania. Jones ended the band after he discovered that Megg had started a new band with Booger called Knife Crime. [7] No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Owl gets a job for him, Megg, Mogg, and Werewolf Jones at a camping goods store, hoping to help them pay rent. The second the store owner and Owl are away, Megg and Mogg get bored of work and attempt to turn it into a nightclub. Also, when Werewolf Jones is fired for his indecent behavior, he breaks into the store/nightclub and pretty much destroys it, costing Owl his job. Grew a Spine: After years of abuse and ridicule, Owl leaves his friends for good at the end of Megahex. star rating for the product (boosted immeasurably by the included flexi disc recording!!!) (2.7-3, due to noted and understandable scamming) with a 5 star in appreciation and enjoyment…if that makes any sense.

Well? It’s a bit of a letdown after Crisis Zone, but maybe that was an inevitability. The storytelling is too decompressed. It’s not horrendous, like Spider-Woman and Power Man bendis-bantering about how much air is in a bag of Hot Cheetos or something equally inane and crowd-pleasing as that, but it’s definitely decompressed. I believe social media is a detrimental force in the world so I don’t follow MM&O online—this is my first peek into this world for over a year—I can’t help but feel a little disappointed.

Obliviously Evil: Werewolf Jones doesn't seem to realize that his actions upset the people around him. Continuing in the alt comix tradition of crossing any and all lines--what lines?! Do you see any lines here?!-- Simon Hanselmann produces probably the most offensive volume yet of his drunken stoner Megg & Mogg series. Mogg is out of town, though, so we are left with the character who represents the absolute bottom of the barrel, Werewolf Jones. Megg and Werewolf Jones are a noise band, Horse Mania, the worst band in the world! The very point here is to make you cringe as the lyrics are horrible, the way they treat fellow bands if horrible. They are terrible. The Stoner: The titular trio and Werewolf Jones take this trope to its logical extreme, to the point where they're perpetually high and spend what little money they have on more weed. They're arguably deconstructions of the stoner archetype, as the reason they consume so much weed is because of their constant mental anguish. It also has few standout stories with most of them feeling repetitive and underwhelming, especially if you’re a fan of the series and have read the other books where you get the same impressions/information on the character that you get here but in more entertaining stories. I find sex very interesting, terrifying and bizarre. It's warped and odd, even within the mainstream. it's superfluous outside of breeding but has basically become a sport, an obsession. An activity, with toys. My teen drama was to be dripping in sex also. Obviously, I guess, being a "teen drama."
