About this deal

Just Sayin’ is published by #Merky B ooks, the imprint launched by the musician Stormzy and Penguin Random House with an aim to “own – and change – the mainstream”. Was that something you wanted to get behind? In the foreword to Just Sayin’ , you describe the book as “the hardest thing I’ve ever written”. Why? Don’t miss the chance to hear her, as she shares her own life lessons, the impetus behind her biggest books, and a few writing tips too!

Not only do we get to see all of that, but more about why she wrote her books too. I was especially interested in hearing more about where her spark for Noughts and Crosses came from and that publication process. In some cases, anger fuelled her, and sometimes it was exclusion and defying the odds, and sometimes imagination... it's also a very true story about perserverance which was reassuring to see from this great author, as someone who is an aspiring author as well. The Deadly Dare Mysteries (contents: Deadly Dare, 1995, Computer Ghost, 1997, Lie Detectives , 1998; illustrated by Neil Chapman), Corgi Children's, 2005, ISBN 0-552-55353-0

The long-awaited autobiography of one of the world's greatest children's writers, and an empowering and inspiring account of a life in books.Noughts & Crosses was No. 61 on the Big Read list, a 2003 BBC survey to find "The Nation's Best-Loved Book", with more votes than A Tale of Two Cities, several Terry Pratchett novels and Lord of the Flies. Talk to a member of staff at the auditorium entrance if you have a disability that means you can’t queue, or you need extra time to take your seat. They can arrange priority entry for you as soon as the doors open. The sixth and final book in the Noughts & Crosses series, Endgame , came out last year. How do you feel now that’s over? Girl Wonder's Winter Adventures (illustrated by Lis Toft), Orion Children's Books, 1992, ISBN 0-575-05383-6

There are so many: Dorothy Koomson, Patrice Lawrence – anything Patrice does. Elle McNicoll; I thought her A Kind of Spark was a brilliant, brilliant book. And I do love my graphic novels: I really enjoyed BB Alston’s Amari and the Night Brothers, and I want to read his latest one. I definitely want to write an adult book, a crime book. It’s something I promised myself I’d do for years and years and years. I’ve got so many more books to write, so many more scripts, and I definitely want to get better at my piano playing. And I try to do at least one course a year, because I want to keep learning and challenging myself. Kids at Random House. Random House Children's Books . Retrieved 23 March 2007. Now in 2022 and three years after her mention in Stormzy’s Superheroes, Just Sayin’ is Merky Books’ first major memoir. Getting more personal, Malorie spoke about her daughter, Elizabeth. She also touched on the miscarriage of her first daughter, Tara. Malorie shared: “They brought her [Tara] to me and… she could fit in the palm of my hand at 14 weeks. Perfectly formed. And it took me a long, long time to get over it.” Reading an excerpt from her memoir, Malorie read: “I do think of you [Tara], often.” The Amazing Adventures of Girl Wonder (illustrated by Lis Toft), Barn Owl Books, 2003, ISBN 1-903015-27-8
