In Plane Sight - Directors Cut on YouTube". YouTube. Archived from the original on December 21, 2021 . Retrieved April 10, 2012. What happened next with “Loose Change” was well documented. An 88-minute second edition of the series arrived in 2006 at precisely the right moment to capitalize on the way social media was rapidly changing how Americans connected with one another. Although widely debunked, the video exploded on Google Video, a predecessor to YouTube, and gained an almost cultlike following among anti-government skeptics, including several minor celebrities. The series became a central pillar of the fringe-yet-vocal 9/11 Truth movement that sprang up in fierce opposition to the George W. Bush administration.

Dylan, the project’s architect and director, had stitched together the first edition of the film on a personal computer while Korey was in the Middle East. When Korey returned home from Iraq in 2004, he joined Dylan as a producer. He threw himself wholeheartedly into researching and, later, into helping to distribute successive cuts of the film, DVD by DVD. It's difficult to assign an accurate score to this film. As a propaganda piece meant to mobilize the young and the ignorant, it's absolutely brilliant. The director does a terrific job at playing on the emotions and insecurities of the audience. He shapes questions as if they were answers, thereby creating false assumptions in the mind of the viewer without ever making clear statements or accusations. He throws out "questions" like a machine, succeeding phenomenally in creating a terrifying atmosphere of gloom and paranoia without needing to tie the details together. He manifests a grand conspiracy-theory which seems clear and obvious, without even having to offer a coherent narrative. It's clear that the authors are masters of propaganda and conspiracy-mongering - they seem to have an in-depth understanding of human psychology, and pull no punches in using it to their advantage. Loose Change: Final Cut DVD included reMo Conscious' music video "We Know" and a nine minute deleted scene on the Pentagon strike. It was the underlying message that you’re being lied to, and that you’ve been being lied to for a long time, and that people are benefiting from telling you lies, that’s what made ‘Loose Change’ popular,” Korey said. Final Cut -- Supplied by Bonnie Rawson. -- NOTE: This DVD was an abridged version. We now have the full-length version.I’m excited to show him that on Thursday,” Korey said to Alysa, his first full-time employee, satisfied with the outcome. He was helping her with a post-pandemic career change.

The story Korey and his friends told through the videos — twisted with inaccuracy and fantasy as they were — felt like an act of reclamation. Helping Dylan brought a sense of control in a world that felt increasingly uncertain, not to mention a deep sense of camaraderie, Korey said. Slowly, from that crucible of conspiracy theories, he also began to aspire to make movies. Something good from something bad. The strategy would be straightforward. Local businesses needed to tell their stories to draw customers, and Korey had spent years learning to do precisely that. Making commercials would bring steady money, and shooting independent narrative film projects would bring creative fulfillment. As Danielle was finishing up dinner, Korey spotted Piper turning the doorknob to go outside without permission. But it was Google Video, a precursor to YouTube, that turned the film into an international sensation. Fans of Loose Change would rip the film from DVDs and then upload it to the platform. The filmmakers never thought to put the movie online themselves. “We didn’t think anyone would watch a whole film on their computer,” Avery says now. They wanted to know whether he felt at all responsible for the 9/11 Truth movement now embraced by right-wing political extremists, and for modern American conspiracy-theory culture itself.

I can’t sit here and claim to know all the answers to what happened [with 9/11],” Avery says. “That’s speculation and it’s something I swore off doing a long time ago. But if I hadn’t made Loose Change the way I did, it wouldn’t have been successful. On December 15, 2015, Journeyman Pictures re-released Loose Change as a condensed, high-definition version of Loose Change 9/11: An American Coup. According to the producers Dylan Avery and Korey Rowe, this edition included the new released video by NIST, a new ending and a much shorter duration made for a digital platform. [38] [39] Loose Change 2nd Edition: HD (2017) [ edit ] Mark Ruffalo questioned the results of the government’s investigation. Rosie O’Donnell tweeted in 2014 that she still didn’t “believe the official story.” Bermas says Joe Rogan bought ten copies of Loose Change: Second Edition when it was released. Acclaimed historian Howard Zinn signed a petition asking for 9/11 to be reinvestigated (though that’s not exactly surprising). Pete Carroll, head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, admitted in 2015 that he has doubts about the official 9/11 narrative, making him a hero among the Truther movement. Now, 15 years after it was first released, Loose Change also has a more troubling legacy, one that the filmmakers insist they never intended. It was a precursor to the conspiracy boom on the Internet and the mainstreaming of conspiracists—most notably InfoWars founder Alex Jones, who was executive producer on the third version of film—and it’s connected to a number of prominent extremist movements on both the left and the right, including Occupy, the Tea Party, and Birtherism. Free Fall". Internet Detectives. Archived from the original on December 12, 2007 . Retrieved December 10, 2007.The filmmakers deny responsibility for these conspiracy theories, a criticism they’ve heard before. “I reject this idea that Loose Change was the start of people thinking everything is a false-flag event,” Bermas says. “I reject that somehow we caused society to go insane.” Avery now has a new documentary about a study of the collapse of 7 World Trade Center. The report, which was published by the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, refutes the official narrative about what happened with the building, Avery says. The study was commissioned by Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a group with more than 3,000 members. The film was also a rallying point for Truthers of all stripes. “ Loose Change played a very large role in mainstreaming 9/11 conspiracy theories,” says Marilyn Mayo, a senior research fellow at the Anti-Defamation League who has written extensively on 9/11 conspiracy theories, particularly how they often incorporate wider anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. After the Truther movement died down, some of its adherents started championing extremist political causes. Some leftist Truthers glommed on to the Occupy movement (a connection conservatives were eager to point out).
