One benefit of low-powered components is that battery life stretches farther when it doesn't have to drive faster components. And so, looking over the battery test results, we finally have a test that the IdeaPad 1 15 leads, stretching the 47Wh battery out to more than 12 hours of use. That's especially impressive in the context of similar budget systems, where you'll usually see inexpensive models break the 10-hour mark at best. And despite there being similarly low-priced options like the V15 or the V155, the IdeaPad 1 15 has one major advantage – the IdeaPad name, which for better or for worse, gives the device some reputation.
Unfortunately, part of this longevity comes from the display's noticeable dimness (and is also attributable to the very low native resolution). At full brightness, the HD screen produces just 258 nits—but that drops to a mere 32 nits when lowered to 50% brightness, as we do in our battery tests. Actual usability will require higher brightness, and even when dialed up to the highest setting, it won't offer much visibility in bright circumstances, like outdoor sunlight. And no – this unit does not have a fan, which means that it is going to be completely silent all the time. We were impressed by the way Lenovo utilized the space cut for the fan assembly, by creating a heat spreader of the same shape and size. Work from anywhere, even without Wi-Fi access. Work on offline apps and stay productive for up to 10 hours on just one charge. Charge 15 minutes with rapid charge boost for 2 hours' battery. This barely HD display has no touch support, limited color reproduction, and low-enough contrast that you can spot its issues with the naked eye—no test equipment is necessary. Compared to its award-winning cousin, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14, which has a full HD IPS panel, it's a step down in quality but on a bigger display. Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day.Another way to cut costs is to use lower-quality build materials. For example, plastic is very cheap (there are a lot of different plastic substances though), but it is more prone to flex. In the case of the IdeaPad 1 15, Lenovo uses a combination of polycarbonate and ABS, which has a surprisingly good feel. In addition, it has a very smooth finish, which is the reason for the good feeling but has the unfortunate disadvantage of showing every single fingerprint. Wireless connectivity is similarly adequate, with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. Neither is top of the line, but they will bring you the internet and let you connect with all of your wireless accessories, respectively. This isn’t your typical laptop that you carry around—it’s a fashion statement. The IdeaPad 5 is built with a new level of attention to detail, making this machine soft and comfortable to the touch with a durable paint that creates a better user-experience and multiple color options, so you can find the one that best fits you.
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering. Ultimately, the Lenovo is a machine built for simple web browsing and maybe some YouTube. Battery and Display Tests We tested the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15 (model 82FG015NUS) with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 8GB of memory, and 512GB of storage. The screen, CPU, GPU, memory, and storage, are configurable; you can see the available options in the table below. Our review applies only to variants with a model number starting with '82FG'. Screen So what characterizes this notebook? Well, on paper, it is its portability, and efficiency, which comes with decent speed thanks to the SSD inside and AMD’s Ryzen 7000U CPUs. Before your mouth starts watering, we have to tell you to manage your expectations.
An Unsurprisingly Dim and Dull Display
The measured maximum brightness of 246 nits in the middle of the screen and 224 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 12%. The Correlated Color Temperature on a white screen is 6050K – slightly warmer than the optimal for the sRGB standard of 6500K, which is not bad. We test Windows PCs' graphics with two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from UL's 3DMark: Night Raid (more modest, suitable for laptops with integrated graphics), and Time Spy (more demanding, suitable for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs). jumper Laptop,12GB RAM 256GB SSD Laptops,14 Inch 1920x1080 Pixels Ultrabook,Intel Celeron Processor... As we said, this material is not very flex-resistant, but to be honest, Lenovo has done a not-bad job in strengthening the chassis on the inside. Both the lid and the base show some resistance before inevitably flexing when twisted. On the bright side, the laptop weighs only 1.55 kg and has a profile of 17.9mm, which makes it one of the most portable offerings for the price.
