About this deal

Whereas, all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, and there exists a certain community of people of different sexual orientations and gender identities in Leander, Texas, who have had immeasurable impact to the cultural, civic, and economic success of our community and country; and Pride leaders said the event was meant not only to be a celebration and an opportunity to build community, but also to give people a chance to learn from one another in a safe space. The long, mournful howl he'd heard only once before filled his ears and his heart, and he shuddered.’

Even as she grew older, Zarah Leander continued to sing for her fans in Germany and Sweden. Credit: Folkbladet.se The Escape, and Her Legacy Sir Leander Starr Jameson, 1st Baronet, KCMG, CB, PC (1853–1917) was a distinguished medical doctor, brilliant surgeon, colonial administrator, politician and statesman. Initially, he studied to become a medical doctor at University College Hospital, London where he excelled, becoming a Gold Medallist in materia medica. He had a successful, if not distinguished, medical career in England before overwork broke down his health. He continued his career in southern Africa, with some of his noteworthy patients being Afrikaner Presidents Paul Kruger and Sir Jan Brand, the Nde bele king Lobengula and the similarly UCT-vilified Cecil Rhodes (his “bosom companion”). First, I will focus on how gender is depicted in Hero and Leanderand Venus and Adonis. The Oxford English Dictionary defines gender as ‘The state of being male or female as expressed by social or cultural distinctions and differences, rather than biological ones; the collective attributes or traits associated with a particular sex, or determined as a result of one’s sex.’(“Gender”, n.d.,para. 2b.)From this definition we can clearly assume that both Shakespeare and Marlowe are breaking the social norms with the characters Adonis and Leander by presenting them in a manner that society considers feminized. The stakes are upped when Leander visits during a brutal winter, just before the blizzard of the decade hits. The cabins aren't winter proofed, because Axton spends all winter comfortably in his werewolf skin. For a human, the cabins are uncomfortable at best, and skittering towards dangerous as the storm worsens. It's Leander who decides they need to share a cabin and tough out the storm together--and if it was hard to keep his lycanthropy a secret before, Axton's got no idea how to keep Leander from waking up to a face full of fur and teeth now, with temperatures plummeting and emotions running high. But it's when skies clear and a hike goes wrong that things really go deadly.Beecher, Don, ed. (2012). Straparola, Giovan Francesco, and W.G. Waters. "Malgherita Spolatina's Death at Sea: FIORDIANA." In: The Pleasant Nights . Volume 2. Edited by Donald Beecher. University of Toronto Press, 2012. 93–100. doi: 10.3138/9781442699533. ISBN 9781442699533. JSTOR 10.3138/9781442699533. This book ended with a HFN, and not a strong one. I feel like this is just the beginning of something beautiful. When he finds himself drawn to his new neighbor, Leander, he's further conflicted within himself. Both wolf and man want the proximity but are distraught over their shared secret of his sexuality and nature.

Franz Liszt's Ballade No. 2 in B Minor was most likely inspired by Schiller and other Romanticists adaptation and interest in the myth. This is unlike most shifter books because lycanthropy is described in-depth, and I haven't seen it before. Sexuality. (n.d.). In Oxford English dictionary. simply lovely, and nuanced, and evidence of an irritatingly fulsome literary talent i can't wait to enjoy again. The drag community became a second family to Cass, and a welcome respite from some disapproving classmates at school. “When you’re called a ‘fag’ and everything in the book, it’s so draining, and when I was able to put on a dress and a wig and lip-sync a song I love, and have people clapping for me, why would I give that up? I felt so at home on 4th street, in that chosen family I was accepted in, that I didn’t want to leave.” keywords = {{Zarah Leander; gender; gesture; emotion; feeling; queer; voice; kitsch; gay diva worship; camp}}, that he was one (there were two others) of six doctors commissioned to investigate the outbreak who did not support a diagnosis of smallpox;

Then he gets a sometimes-neighbor when Leander buys the cabin a quarter mile away as a kind of mountain retreat. Axton has been alone a long time, and whatever social skills he once had are....rusty, LOL. To say the least, he's anything but happy to have someone invade his haven. But his natural curiosity eventually puts him at Leander's door, and a friendship begins. The most famous Shakespearean allusion is the debunking one by Rosalind, in Act IV scene I of As You Like It: Whereas, Leander Pride is a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization with a stated mission of making Leander, Texas, a more inclusive place for LGBTQIA+ residents and community members; and

The story unfolds over several seasons, where Leander plans to visit maybe once or twice a year but finds himself coming more and more. They enjoy each other's company and though Axton never stops yearning, he mostly accepts that nothing can ever happen with them. Axton is gay *though he never says so to Leander, it doesn't come up* and Leander is straight. And human. When Leander is gone though, his life carries on and mostly, Axton is content. Billing, V. (2017). The Queer Erotics of Size in Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis.Shakespeare Studies

But you know what? It doesn't matter. The storytelling is strong enough that the flaws are worth it. I devoured it cover to cover and couldn't put it down.

As for the “hyperbolic and faintly ridiculous description of hero,” I do believe you should revisit Marlowe’s epyllion, as it is well cited by renowned literary theorists as a gross exaggeration. The roles are reversed; whereas it is usually the woman–Hero–that receives the most attention in reference to bodily attributes, Leander–the male–is the one that is described in a sensual, ethereal manner. I also think you may be mixing up the characters. Hero is the female; Leander is the male, and this was yet another jest on the part of Marlowe (As the male is typically referred to as the male). I am sorry you did not enjoy the article…I hope you find something else more suited to your taste. –Best, danielle577
