About this deal

The design of the mat has not been changed very much so you still get a very comfortable sleep with this. This comes from the center portion of the pad having that distinctive V shape while the outer edges are a bunch of little squares that form a side rail which increase stability and cushioning. On my first night on the Static V2, I felt that I slept much more comfortable thanks to the body mapping. The V-shape cradles your body, so you don’t slip off your pad or twist your sleeping bag around in the middle of the night. Klymit uses a standard twist and pull valve. It’s well made and works well. More on sleeping pad valve types in our Guide. I give the design a 5, though this is something each individual will need to test out for themselves. I like that Klymit is innovative and pushing the level of comfort and weight in their sleeping pads.

When all is said and done, you’re not buying this pad for winter camping, you are buying it because it’s a comfortable, lightweight summer sleeping pad. Score: 2.5/5 Comfort/Stability The Klymit Insulated Static V is three inches wider than your standard sleeping pad. This gives you more room for a better sleep. Your elbows might not fall off! On the other hand, if you spend a lot of time winter camping and in high elevation, you should opt for a sleeping pad with a much higher R-value. Let’s take a look at what makes a sleeping pad comfortable. The optimal sleeping pad will feel as light as a feather; you want to feel like you are sleeping on air – no pressure points or deflation throughout the night! We tested and reviewed the Klymit Insulated Static V. Klymit makes a number of different versions of this sleeping pad — all them have the V-shaped baffles, a twist and pull valve, and are wider than normal pads. If you want an uninsulated pad, the Static V or Static V2 are good options. They weigh around a pound each, but know that they have no insulation.R-Value is the measurement used to gage a sleeping pad’s ability to insulate. The higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad will be, as this what measures its capacity to “resist” (hence the “R”) heat flow. Klymit's Static V Insulated sleeping mat uses synthetic insulation to deliver a warm sleeping mat with optimised baffle pattern for comfort. From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags. As the name suggests, the sleeping pad has a “V” shape from the center, while the outer edges are rectangles that form somewhat of a side rail. See the photo above. For a full length insulated sleeping mat the Static V Lite is a very comfortable, lightweight and compact option. The unique V shaped design down the centre of the mat hugs the body and makes for a very comfortable nights sleep.

Twist-Pull Valve: Secure and simple, it allows inflation in as few as 10 breaths and opens wide for rapid, complete deflation.

Secondly, this is a lightweight pad, as I’ve already stressed, and it is non-insulated and designed for summer. Its low R-value at 1.3 means this is not for high altitudes or mountaineers. That said, I used this pad at 8,500 feet on a 40-degree night without any insulation and just my sleeping bag for warmth. It was completely fine at this temperature.

The Klymit Static V2 is one of the best-valued sleeping pads on the market. For one, it’s the most comfortable sleeping pad I’ve used, providing plenty of cushion and stability. If you want a 3-4 season sleeping pad, then the V2 is not for you, as this is a non-insulated pad that focuses on weight and comfort over the R-Value. This is also a uni-sex sleeping pad. Women-specific pads insulate the core and feet area more. As a self-inflating pad user, I’m fond of the whole self-inflation thing. You open the valve, wait 30 minutes, and your mat is almost completely blown up for you. (Yes, you still have to put in the final few breaths for firmness.) These baffles are unique to Klymit. Klymit created and uses Body Mapping Technology, which puts pressure in key places for sleep comfort. More on sleeping pad baffle types in our Guide.

Our Verdict

Klymit’s sleeping pads are warrantied for life against manufacturing defects and workmanship issues. However, sleeping pad are notorious for being difficult to return and replace because of user error, popping, etc. Klymit has a great reputation, so if you think your pad is faulty, let them know. Overall, I absolutely love this pad. It’s extremely lightweight without sacrificing luxury and comfort. Overnight, we slept well in the tent. The mat itself is very quiet, with minimal rustling or crinkling, but once or twice we noted that when turning over in our lightweight down bag, a sudden escape of air from between those deep channels caused an audible squeak. Some other users seem to have likened this sound to a fart! We didn’t really experience that issue on test, but then maybe some people wriggle around a lot more in the night than we do – what can we say, we’d done a long day’s hiking, and we were dog tired. This was what I was most excited to test out, as my older pad has a normal, simple design. While I like my other pad, I do tend to wake-up multiple times in the night to adjust, as I am a side sleeper.
