About this deal

ID-11 is a fine grain film developer for all general film processing requirements. It creates excellent image quality with optimal sharpness. In fact, this is the one Ansel Adams himself recommended for those learning the zone system. It has a long shelf life and it’s cheap to use as one-shot. It’s not great for pushing, but we’re not doing any of that for this test. At box speeds, I feel like it’s a strong choice for most of these films. For many of these films, people will argue that other developers would be better to start out with. I’m not disagreeing with that, but again, I had to start somewhere and I certainly can’t test all of them.

Like HC, LC29 offers less grain and contrast but requires longer development time at higher dilutions. ILFOTEC DDX Developer You can see from our results, we got good even tones in the greys. Plenty of detail in the shadows. And, it handled the highlights well. Considering this was shot with a plastic lens, there is also decent amount of contrast. Whether you like the results you get from shooting street photography with Kentmere 400 will come down to personal taste, and I’m certainly not unhappy with how mine turned out. According to Harman themselves, it has ‘a broad tonal range along with a wide exposure latitude’, although that comes across like something all film manufacturers say. My conclusion findings is very much as expected after using Kentmere 100 and Ilford Pan 100 films before. Pan 100 is an awesome film that is well worth trying and Kentmere 100 is nice too. Shooting more Ilford Pan 400 on a run in Poland

As you can see, the first few frames came out wonderfully, but a few of them were a tad too dark, exposing poor exposure readings or the fear of low shutter speeds and blurry images. Eiffel Tower from the boat – Paris Paris buildings on the side of the Seine River Paris Bridges from the cruise boat – bit of scratching here but believe was due to processing! Sunset cruise – exposure was much too dark Ilford’s Kentmere Pan 100 & 400, have always yielded surprisingly good results considering how affordable they are. But, because Ilford offers many reasonably priced professional grade options, both Kentmere Pan 100& Kentmere Pan 400 are often overlooked.

To read the news about the launch, head over to the post over here. This article is a full review of the film which includes a trip to the city of amour, Paris! Havane Cafe in Paris Film features & price I’ve really enjoyed shooting with Ilford films, and haven’t been let down in any area so far. Looking to try something different Ilford was naturally my first port of call. It was close between their Pan and Kentmere lines, but I was more intrigued by the Kentmere after seeing some results online. I bought a few rolls and shot the first few images during a piece of performance art by Willi Dorner.Like Kentmere, Ilford HP5+ is a product of the Harman technology company. It is a lower contrast film. It has good shadow detail and well-separated mid-tones with sharp grain. Although the contrast is low, there is a great deal of latitude in this film, which makes it great for pushing or flavoring the curves and contrast to taste, after scanning. Selling for about 14 cents per frame, currently, it might be less sharp than some films, but it will provide predictable and reproducible results. Like Kentmere, there is a bit more bounce to this film after drying. As a side note, I’ve found HP5+ fans to be some of the most loyal and enthusiastic in the community, more so, than perhaps, any of the other films that I’m talking about.

At the price it sells for, it’s a perfectly serviceable option for students and hobbyists, which I imagine was part of Harman’s motivation to produce it alongside the more expensive Ilford range. Kentmere 400 provides more flexibility in terms of lighting and exposures available to the photographer. This speed is helpful during the shorter and often rainier (UK based) winter days. It’s also great if you want faster shutter speeds in general, even if the day is bright. For the Zeiss Ikon Nettar, in anything less than clear skies and sunny days, it is helpful to have the extra speed given that the brightest aperture on this camera is F6.3. The choice of dilution depends on the desired final image results and grain structure. MICROPHEN Developer The purpose of the stop bath is to immediately halt the action of the developer on the film. This ensures that the images are not overdeveloped, thereby maintaining the desired level of contrast and detail in the final images. There are different ways to over expose film. A common way if you lab develop your film is to meter the film in camera at say ISO 200 and then ask you lab to develop the film as normal. For Kentmere 400 this would be at ISO 400 giving a +1 stop over exposure (as you metered at ISo 200)(thereby giving the camera +1 stops of extra light on each image). DIN’s increments are not as straightforward as ISO/ASA’s. The DIN scale is logarithmic and increases by 3° for each doubling of sensitivity.

After the stop bath, the film needs to go through a fixing process. Fixing is crucial as it removes the unexposed silver halides from the film, making the film’s image permanent and insensitive to further exposure of light. The ILFORD Fixer is a rapid fixer that can be used in this process. The same camera (shutter tested just before, all exposure times were close to perfect) was used for all shots — a Pentax Program A. ILFOTEC LC29 is a highly concentrated liquid developer. This versatile developer offers a range of dilutions for varied contrast and time. If there’s a photography shop near you that sells film, it’s very possible they’ll have Kentmere 400. Remember, it was first produced for the US market and rolled out worldwide afterwards. The overall character of the film is said to be quite bright, with good detail in the shadows, silvery highlights and a nice grey tone throughout. This again seems to reinforce the overall medium contrast thing.
